Weekend to Niagra Falls

Weekend to Niagra Falls

Postby PhreakdOut » Sat Aug 06, 2005 9:10 am

The wife talked me into going away last weekend for a kid-free trip to Niagra Falls. Ya' know, rekindle the romance and that kind of stuff.

Despite my plans to clay bar and detail the Solara, I agreed. (But she wouldn't let me bring the laptop so no logging into SolaraGuy. LOL)

Here are a couple pics of the beautiful falls. (If you can see them behind my car)

Everyone is taking pics of the falls and I'm the crazy American standing in the road taking pics of the car. (Which was soaked from the mist. Oh, well)

OK, I gave in. I stopped taking pictures of the car in front of the falls. (Happy now honey?!?) Where's Waldo?

I was around there about 2 weeks ago. The last night I stayed at the Skyline right across the street from Niagara Casino. My solara was out there too, and I took it out of the shop the same day I drove it to Canada, so it too was dirty as hell. Detailed it the weekend after I got back.

Being 6'4" helps! :P

Really, I scurried up a hillside to get the car and the falls. I think the park ranger was going to give the WTF but I took the shot and came down.

Can you leave your car just parked in that spot? Did you snap a few shots then move it to the correct spot in a parking lot or something?

Looks like the 1st and 3rd are in the same spot but in the 2nd one looks like he might've moved it to a different spot

Both parking spots were illegal. I took these pics around 6:45am so I could get pics without traffic or 10 million gawking tourists. (Like me.)
The ideal time for a pic is the afternoon when the sun in behind the camera. (Thus the car turned out dull and dark.)

The first spot was near the main falls from the Canadian side.
The second spot was the smaller falls to the left. About ¼ mile down the road. I was parked in the pull off for a bus stop. The parking fees were nuts. No way in heck was I going to pay for a 10 second photo op.

Thanks for the compliments. I credit the camera for the quality of the shot. I'm just the monkey behind the button :P

My setup at the time was a Canon EOS Rebel Digital SLR. 6.3MP set in highest quality raw mode. (Around 3.5MB / picture.) Lens was a Canon EFS 18-55mm AF with Tiffen UV protector and Circular Polarizer.

I usually carry two to three cameras in the bag. Backups are Canon EOS Rebel Xs 35mm SLR (not digital) and a point and shoot for the pocket, Casio Exilim. But the Casio's digital display was cracked during my last business trip to Texas.

More info than you wanted? I have a habit of doing that. :D

I just rolled through Kitchner this afternoon. I drive to Cambridge every other month. I've been lookin' out for your ride, but it seems Solaras are pretty scarce in Canada. (Go figure, the Gen 1 & 1.5 were made in Cambridge!)

I'll PM 'ya next time I'm going to be in town. We can meet up for a beer or something.
