We all don't mod our cars to the excess of others. I have a decent looking daily driver, which was my goal. I never intended to do thing to get it to show quality, as it seems, you are going for.
Who would not research something prior to investing the biggest portion of time and money into a project? It's almost as bad as buying a car, modding it because other people said it's good and then you look back after researching (most people research after purchase) and see they should've invest the time before the money.
That's the situation, it seems, that you've put yourself in.
Placing people in the "I'm right but you're wrong because I'm a risk taker" is an invalid argument. Not everyone here, as stated, is going for the showcar theme... but then again, not everyone needs their car to resemble something it's not. It's almost as bad as saying Scion owners suck because it's less than a Toyota but has parts to make it be like something else... the xB is not a DJ setup, but one was turned into one... a Civic isn't an Altezza, but the tail lights resemble one... the Solara isn't a S15 but the headlights now resemble one... You cannot use the arguement that "my extreme mods are better than yours" because it's simply ludicrous. You can't say your car is better than a stock one because your intentions are not the same... if you compare handling, sound quality, exterior impression, etc... then you can say things as such.
"Putting people in their place" by saying they have stock cars is also an invalid argument. We all make choices to get a cheaper car and mod it or buy a better car and keep it stock... while a handful buy the better car and eventually end up modding it. I'm sure you've seen the red Civic that was modded to look like a BMW 3 series. The car even fools all the Euro tuners unless you look really closely... is the civic w/ $20-30K in mods better than a stock 3-series? Some may say yes... some may say no. It's personal preference from there on.
Modifying a car isn't about who is the most unique... that's only valid in the show car world. In real life, who cares. A car isn't an investment. It's a money pit and tool for life. I used to always bag on people that put coffee can exhausts on and giant GT spoilers... but I've learned the say "To each, his own" and it makes life easier... you find yourself enjoying your car more while not giving a rat's ass about other's. Notice I never said anything regarding your car. I am simply pointing out that your screen name shows the amount of research you put into something prior to doing/purchasing it. Some people like to put money into their car and it makes them feel good because they know people are looking at it and they love the attention. (Run-un central lol). There are specific examples I can use... when people go around popping their trunks and screaming BRO LOOK AT MY SYSTEM (attention) while others have their system because it sounds good (personal enjoyment).
So ya. Do your homework. Save yourself time and money. Isn't it fun to have posts that you have to think of sometimes? Debates that don't get into personal attacks are fun. My post prior to this was a personal attack. This one, as you can see, refers to the personal attack and makes points w/o attacking directly. I'm gladly awaiting your reply. If you want to take the debate route, go for it... if you want to flame me, go for it. I take no offense to anything said on the internet. I merely kill time by posting (seen in my post count)
EDIT: I just noticed... you are asking us for help yet you criticize us for not 'taking risks'. Congratulations... hypocrisy at its best! (Saying we haven't taken the risks yet asking us for help on this blind venture you've taken)
Thanks and have a nice day,
Jeff
