What's the perfect tire pressure for 215/50/17?

I usually run 38-40 on my 18s.

I would probably do the same for 17s.

The Camry Solara owner's manual recommends 32psi for the p215/55/17 factory Solara tire size, so I would say go 34-35psi.

Every time I go to Costco to have anything done they drain all the air out of my tires.. I have 18's and they are convinced that it needs 32 PSI cause that's whats recommended... Makes me wonder if I should be letting those idiots even get near my car.

^^I wonder who in their right mind would let a bunch of retards work on their cars.


My Solara runs on 16 inch factory enkei wheels and tires, and the pressure of the 4 tires are set at 35psi currently.

The ride is a bit more comfortable at 35 psi than 32 psi, plus my gas milage tends to be higher at 35psi versus 32psi.

Won't the ride get all wobbly at 40psi? I tried that much on my 16s and the ride was so on the highway.

Ride was fine, never noticed anything weird. It always felt like the handling was too soft when the air was below 35 psi.

Theres a difference, you have 16 inch rims. Lower profile = Higher PSI

Edit: please excuse the post that I deleted from this thread, I was a bit too happy at the time.

Don't set the tire pressure at the recommended level by the owners manual because that is too low.

When I set 32 psi on my Solara's tires, the car's grip was too soft and the car got mostly 32 mpg on mostly highway whereas with 35-36psi I got 33-34.8mpg.

I've been running 34 on my 18's.... Gotta move up to 38-40 then, never new which worked better..

My snow tires are probably sitting around 23 PSI right now because I haven't checked them since I put them on about 3 months ago I should probably get around to doing that...

Lower PSI is better for snow, I think.
