Purchasing New Camry next week

Hey guys,

In order to take advantage of the Cash for Clunkers program, I'm thinking of trading it in to purchase the 2009 or 2010 Camry next week.

Some stats off of yahoo autos:
2.4L I4, 16 valves, 158hp @ 6000rpm
5 speed automatic transmission
21 mpg city/ 31 mpg hwy

We're a Toyota family (+1 04' Accord), so my first choice was the Camry. I don't need anything too special performance-wise. The expert reviews are all mildly positive, and mostly they just bash on the exterior and extremely cheap interior. However, user reviews pretty much ALL state that the transmission sucks balls, the response is sluggish, sometimes lurching (which I experience quite often already in my Solara), and many other negative reviews. I've owned an 88 Camry, 96 Avalon, and 04 Solara. Toyota has always been the top brand in my list, but I'm holding some doubts after reading these reviews.

Since I'm not a TN member, I didn't want to make a new account just to bring this question over there. I wanted to consult you guys first. Anyone have any experience with the new Camry's? Any suggestions on trims or even Camry-equivalent cars that I should consider instead?

Thanks.

I say go for the Camry. They did a great job designing the new body style. And, if you can, go for the Sport trim. Looks best IMO.

2009 Camry 2.4L 4banger (SE/LE/XLE) has 158hp and could be had with 5speed Auto or a 5speed Manual

2010 Camry 2.5L 4banger (LE/XLE) has 169hp and now comes with a 6speed Auto or 6speed Manual.

But if you opt for the 2010 Camry SE 2.5L 4banger, it has 179hp with the 6speed Auto or 6speed Manual and dual exhaust.

If you're strictly looking at the 4cylinder, get the 2010 SE model with the 179hp.

That's crappy! How hard is it to get an Australian TRD supercharger shipped to the US? I assume it's will still fit the same on the US version. Just curious because I've been drooling over the AWD V6 Venza with a tow package... I also love the Camry sport models. But either one, I'd want the supercharger.

^ Ain;t happening. TRD4Life had access to the only one that we've ever seen for sale, and NO ONE wanted it. They can not be gotten unless you need a replacement for the TRD Aurion, OR you get it off a totaled one. And production is now cancelled. Very few around.

Ok I'm kind of afraid to ask this question just because of the rivalry between the two (in fact, the emoticon for honda is :honda:)... but as far as the 4 bangers go... Camry or Accord? I already have a 2004 v6accord, but I also technically have a 2004 v6camry. The accord in terms of acceleration is absolutely amazing compared to my laggyass solara, but the solara's ride is a lot more comfortable. Don't know about the 2010 models though, nor how the I4's match up.

This is something for a daily commute back and forth to work. Won't be taking it on any long trips or adding any mods to it. Thanks for your timely responses!

i think the i4 has more power
the basic one has like 2 more hp (than camry) and the "upgraded" i4 has a handful more....
i dunno about how everything else is, like handling and what not....
but on paper hp wise accord has a few more.....(probably less tq though haha vtak!!)

^ I still stick to what I said. 2010 SE w/6-speed manual. Manual tranny should get ride of the damn lag, and the SE should have a decent sporty ride compared to the CE/LE/XLE. Comes with standard Alloy's, dual exhaust, lip kit, and higher hp engine.
