I'll just shed some light into your question about rubbing and what nots.
My Gen 2 Solara...and rims and tires experiences...
1. Rim size: 18x7.5 +38 offset...stock height, no rubbing. Can't remember tire sizes, but should be close to stock specs.
2. Rim size: 20x8.5 +38 offset...stock height...they rub during sharp turns, fronts and rears. Will also rub more in the rears when I'm 4 deep going over big humps/drops in the roads at high speeds 60+mph. Tires are same as stock diameter.
3. Rim size: 18x8.5 +45 offset...stock height, they rub, both fronts and rears, when I'm 4 deep. Same situation as above. Can't remember tire sizes, but same as stock diameter.
4. Rim size: 20x7.5 +45 offset...air bags suspension so I can tuck in the rears and still cruise at low speed. 225/35 tires. NO RUBBING.
5. Rim size: 20x8 +45 offset...air bags suspension. NO RUBBING
Let me tell you, it's not good on the sidewalls of your tires and you'll get rubber peels as well.
Back to what's on sale 19x8.5...you really need to check and post the offset of those wheels.
Like scamry said, you'll need to roll/cut the rear fenders or do some sort of modification to the thick rear fender beaded-lip of our gen 2s to avoid any rubbing. It'll definitely look much better. I'll eventually get to doing mine sooner or later, it's on the to-do list.
Just a final thought...before you purchase any wheels and tires from tire shops, they'll sell you anything and everything and will claim that they fit with no rubbing issues, they just want to make the quick bucks. I've learned the hard ways and hope you do your homework. However, I used to know a tires and wheels guy that told me everything straight up and wouldn't sell me something that didn't fit properly. He/we always tested it on the rack before I buy anything. Too bad he doesn't work there any longer...
GLWS again.
