Hello everyone,

I am looking for a new HVAC control unit for my 2004 Solara. My system currently allows me to blow air and go down in temperature but it does not go up. The dealership said that it will cost me $1,020, which I don't have.

And I definitely need heat! I live in Chicago.

If anyone knows of anything I can do or where to go to get the part, please let me know.

$1020!!!! Sounds like they quoted you a price for replacing the whole heater assembly. You should ask the dealership what part of the assembly is blown (core, evaporator, thermistor, etc.) The dealership using the generic term "HVAC Control Unit" sounds like another way of saying their just gonna install a whole new assembly rather than research if it's just a clogged hose or stuck thermistat. I would recommend first that you make sure your engine is getting up to temp (temp gage) and check to see if the radiator is properly filled first. If the simple stuff is not the issue then it may cost more to have someone start pulling hoses and checking parts but the cost should be in the low hundreds. Note 9 times out of 10 a stuck thermistor is the cause of no heat.

It may be worth a try to replace the 3 knob control panel below the radio first. You should be able to pick one up off ebay for around $20 shipped and should take less than 15 mins to replace.
