...what models do you suggest I look at? I really don't know much about these units and I've read some reviews but they don't seem to tell me all I want to know.

OK here's what I want- An in dash Navi/DVD video/CD double DIN receiver with a good IPOD interface (i'm sure they all have this now). But what I really want is one that I can use the Nav AND the CD or DVD video at the same time. What good is going on a long trip when you can't listen to a CD and use the Nav at the same time, and toggle back and forth on the screen easily. I like the pioneer units because of the Nav interface, it looks the best I think and seems to be the most user friendly. The D2 looks nice b/c you can have the CD/Nav at the same time, but no Movies. The D3 play Movies, but has only one disc slot. I'm not looking to spend $2K but I would like a model with all 3 things if it exists. A good, user friendly Navigation is the most important to me, if that makes a difference.

Suggestions?? Let me know what unit you use and how you like it. Thanks

^^ i agree, eclipse makes a great navi. i love mine (avn5495) but it doesnt have the navi hard drive or whatever it is... it has a disk which go's into the dvd slot... so if you want to watch a movie you cant have the navi going at the same time... itll play cds with the navi however.... still, eclipse makes units which fit what youre looking for.
pioneer also, which i hear good things about.

have you checked crutchfield yet?

Eclipse units are definitely a great buy IMO, Pioneer aint have bad either. My friend is running a Z1 in his car and has all the features you're looking for. But consider that having all of those features isnt cheap..it'll be at least $1000 or so..

Eclipse is a good unit. I love my kenwood, it may be old, but the newer versions of it have the ipod, and you can even get a bluetooth adapter. I got one of the first kenwood double dins and never looked back. If you make your way out to central MA, i'd be more than happy to show you the setup. The actual navi software hasn't changed since they designed it years ago.

im saving up to get the avn5510
it looks good and has good reviews
it also has a 7" screen rather than a 6.5 (since its an 07 model)
look on ebay, they are going for pretty decent prices
5510 for about 850-900 shipped
the 5500 for about 800 shipped

I really prefer to stick to one brand for most of my products. I would say get the eclipse, and the rear view camera. Since I installed myrearview, I really enjoy it and feel a lot better parking, even though I have never had a problem before, its just easier now.

Make sure that which ever you choose, you go into a retail store and play with it. Make sure you like the backlighting colors, how easy it is to use for everyday stuff, like changing radio stations, pausing a CD, connecting an ipod or whatever.

Good luck, its a big purchase. To me, the Pioneer and the Eclipse seem the best, I don't have much experience here.

Hey.. I've been lurking for a while and I'm sort of in the same boat.

From what I've read, if you get anything other than the OEM nav, you lose the steering wheel controls/bluetooth connectivity/multi-info display. Is this true?

That's interesting! I had no idea! So the dealer versions of the Eclipse units can be hooked up to the steering wheel controls?

On another note, does anyone know the part numbers I need to buy to use the head unit from oemvalue?

Thanks!

Sounds like everybody's giving you the same option so i'll give u something different to look into. I would go with the Kenwood DNX7100 navigation or the ddx-7019 or ddx-8019 and add on the navigation. It is GPS so there is no Disk, so you can enjoy video and Navigation. You can also plug in your mp3 player via usb and here your audio while watching dvd or Navigation. Has everything u need, check it out.
