Speakers

Speakers

Postby Steel » Sat Sep 08, 2007 12:10 am

I just bought a 2008 Solara Convertable. Somehow, I blew out the front right speaker (I never blew out a speaker in my life). I am considering purchasing better speakers for the front doors and dash versus replacing the blown parts for stock units (which may or may (probably not) not be covered by the warranty). In particular, I would like to replace the front 6.5" speakers and the 2.5" dash speakers. I plan on having the car for awhile so I think I would get many years of use out of good speakers.

My situation seems different than most so I decided to post this question. I am considering higher end speakers while retaining the stock amp, 6x9" and 8" rear speakers. I am not clear if this is a waste of money. I was always a fan of Alpine speakers however I am not current on speakers. If this is not a bad idea, does anyone recommend cones and tweeters for the front that I will not blow with the stock amp?

Thank you for your time.

I would take it back for warranty first. Make sure there isn't a problem with your connections or your amp. Let them chase down the problem, fix it then you can upgrade.

Toyota would limit the power output to the speakers so they wouldn't blow. I suspect something is wrong with the speaker that it failed so early.

ya get that speaker fixed under waranty 1st then you will have either a back up set or a set you can sell, and off set the cost of the new speakers.

Like the previous posts say, take it back for the warranty.

BUT... good aftermarket speakers will make a world of difference.

I can't say enough good things about Diamond Audio. They are high dollar, but you get what you pay for. They may be hard to find. They are kind of exclusive. (wont find them at CarToys or Best Buy).

Thats my recommendation.

Good luck!

Thank you for the help

I've read a ton of boards but never posted a question ... this was my first question. I have an appointment for next Thursday at the dealer. If they tell me the damage to the car (which is about 2 weeks old) is not covered, I'll purchase better speakers. I'll probably seek a better dealer also. Thanks for everyone's help.
