Woot!

Got the elusive XM unit (pt546-06040) on e-bay for a screaming deal and installed it in about an hour.

I have XM in my SUV and was having withdrawals while in the Solara.

The only thing I don't like is the big, black antenna and where it's located on the side of the trunk lid. It just looks out of place.

There are other places you can mount it. I put one GPS antenna on top of the center metal bolt under the cover on the rear deck (SEE MY GPS POST FOR A PICTURE) and i put my other sat antenna way up in the front under the clock. Both place will work ok, but it's best to put it outside the car.

I payed $58.00, and I think $26.00 for shipping. Yes, a stock e7001...to which I added the backup camera.

I considered mounting the antenna inside the car, but was concerned about reception. Instead, I mounted it in the center of the trunk, just behind the brake light. I'm getting it painted to match the car color with the money I saved.

My sirius antenna is inside my windshield... You don't really notice it because of the tint of the windshield at the top and the mirror... it's slick. My wife was going to have a fit if they installed it on the trunk ...

Some months ago, I did find a deal, however nothing like yours, on eBay. I installed the unit just like it's supposed to be installed. I too was not real pleased with the placement of the antenna. Actually the wire sneaking out of the side of the decklid I think is more unsightly. In checking out actual installations on new cars on the lot at the dealerships, the wire looks just like my installation. I started to put the antenna in the place you mentioned, but I thought the engineers had a reason to put it on the side of the trunk lid. Let you know how your XM works with the "dome" placed under the HMSL.

painting it will make it lose reception, you might as well just place it inside the car

I installed the Eclipse BEC-105 backup camera on the bumper, inside the license plate indention above the plate.

I've reconsidered the painting of the XM antenna. It'll just be a big black square on a white car. No reception problems in moving it to the spot on the trunk behind the brake light. It just looked so out-of-place on the side.

Now if I can just figure out where to put the wet bar...hmmm.
