Trim plate not fitting new NAV system

Trim plate not fitting new NAV system

Postby Sparky5e » Tue Jul 03, 2007 3:07 pm

I purchased the 07 Solara NAV unit from oemvalue and the trim bezel from trdparts4u. Last evening I "attempted" the swap and everything came apart great thanks to the tips here. Instalation not going well. I swapped the mounting brackets from the 6-disk to the nav, mounted the climate control and attempted the bevel plate. The plate is 1/4 short of recessing flush with the climate face so the car is left in pieces.

I am wondering if the mounting plates on the side are different between the 2 units. There is no way to remove anything from the NAV for a better fit and the bexel trim is too thin to grind that much material away.

I don't know where the GPS antenna is suppose to mount either.

Any help would be appreciated

Here are the Toyota P/N I have
NAV #8612006450
trim # 55420-AA011
Mounting Plates #86211-AA030

Yeah it does suck!

I went with the OEM over the Pioneer for several reasons. Mostly because it was plug and play with my car. The Avic needed adapters for the cheesy steering wheel, amp, only holds one CD. Now I gotz this to deal with LOL.

I will try plugging the yota numbers in at a few sites to see if they come up. Sent a pm to the Nav supplier but no reply, might be holiday time already.

One down one to go. Drilled new holes in the side brackets the offset of the difference. In like flint.

Still don't know where the antenna gets routed to and mounted.

^^ That's how I mounted my Sirius Sat antenna. It sits on my dash in the middle and the wiring is routed (tucked) into the edges - can't see it and it doesn't move a bit!

I used the 3M sticky tape that came with the antenna to stick it to the dash between the defroster openings.

I have a limited amount of cable and it has clips I assume are for mounting in a particular place. I like how the other one is mounted, but can't do that. Here's a pic of the antenna and the box is rivoted to the plate.

Oh! Holy CRAP! :o

Guess you can't put that in your dash then eh? ;)

Maybe rivet it to the roof or your hood?

 - I know - I'm no help whatsoever... sorry.

right, but in a stock equipped Solara, there might be a plug for it. Perhaps there is one in there hiding. Best bet would be to call a dealer and ask where it's supposed to be installed.

I only metioned the trunk because on the Audi A4 Cabriolet, the satellite antenna is located under the trunk lid.

So, perhaps there is a piece missing, or the plug is already wired there, just hidden.

The OEM navigation's antenna is definitely somewhere under the dash. I had to get that checked when I didn't have reception, and they opened the dash to access it. Of all the times I've pulled open the dash, I've never noticed where the antenna is though...

The NAV antenna can be anywhere inside of the dash, but the closer to the top of the dash it is, the better it is going to work. I think (from all of the times my NAV has been pulled out) that the OEM NAV antenna is located up near the trip computers- up near the top of the dash, so it can tell which direction your car is moving.

Well it's in and sort of working. I crammed the damn thing on top of the vents wrapped in foam temporaily so I could slap it back togther. I have to take it out again anyway. One plug needs to be converted so the Mic will work and tie in the rearview camera. I looked for the correct plug but wasn't found anywhere so need to find a R10 connector and extract the wires from R18 for it. I think the guys at siennaclub have the part number and I have all the wiring diagrams so it's not too bad.

Actually I am getting into this, nothing like a challenge when you can see the rewards of your labor.
