DVD NAV Map Upgrade

DVD NAV Map Upgrade

I wanted to upgrade my NAV disk. Went to the dealer parts dept.
Was told $250 for and upgrade and that their were not any upgrades available for my 2004 Solara Convertable. What a wealth of knowledge these guys are. They also told me I couldn't put in a backup camera to work with the NAV unit - that they had one works in rear view mirror for $1200. I just installed the BEC06 and it works great. But back to the disk I just bought a version 4.1 on Ebay for $35.00 and it works great. Just thought I would pass it on.. Automan

Stealerships are the worst place to buy for your Lara. So expensive!

Version 4.1 is already more than two years old and Toyota gave it to everyone for my 2004 for free so you just bought something that the guy paid nothing for. Version 5.1 came out two years ago and 6.1 last year. Version 7.1 is probably out already and the next version will be this fall from what a local Toyota parts guy told me today. The NAV DVD's are coded to a particular car or NAV model. I had a dealer try to put the NAV DVD from a 2007 Solara in my 2004 and it wasn't recognized (it's that way on purpose).

Regarding the Nav disc. Does Toyota alert the customer when a new disc comes on line? Acura did when I had my CL Navi.

They do not alert customers at all when a new disc comes online. I doubt Lexus does either but am not sure.
