The console around the radio does pop out, just like the pieces around the shifter.

Not sure what exactly is the holdup... but check this thread...

http://www.solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php?t=15765

Look at the fourth picture... see those two brass nuts? You'll need to remove those as well as two others on top of the Navigation System to remove it. Then just look for the hole to insert your camera plug. You can't really tell by just feeling around in the back.

By the way, you will need to remove the gauge cluster on top of the navigation to access the two other bolts. Just get a good grip and give a good yank towards the back of the car, you should hear the clips releasing.

Just curious, where did you place your backup camera? I stuck mine on my rear deck temporarily because I was lazy and it's pretty much useless there since it's a wide angle.

Backup Camera Mount

Postby automan » Mon Mar 19, 2007 7:26 am

I mounted mine in the middle of the backup lights - in the recess where the license plate goes, so it end uo right in the middle of the top part of the license plate. I was able to mount it forward enough to slide the top of the plate behind it. My Solara is black same as the camera and it looks and works great. I ran the wire through the same hole as the backup light power wires. Good luck with yours.

I'm seriously considering getting the BEC106 installed on my 2006 convertible.

I just want to find out though if there are other options I should consider. Are any of the license plate framed cameras any good? An installer told me they can pretty much adapt any camera to the back of the head unit that I currently have (OEM navigation)

Congrats on the install, I hope you enjoy it.

BTW, just make sure to keep an eye out, because anyone can just come by and rip it off.
