Stock Sirius Receiver

Stock Sirius Receiver

Postby MCOjerry » Fri Jul 28, 2006 8:58 pm

Does anyone here have the stock Sirius receiver?

I think I'm going to break down and get one, because te FM bad is too crowded, and I'm losing spots on the dial for my external unit.

I wanted to know how the JBL display works with the raido data from Sirius. Since the display is small, not much info can fit. Does it continuously scroll with the song artist/name, or do you have to constantly use the text button to see what's on?

Although this most likely won't keep me rom getting it, I'm just curious to know what I'm in for. It would suck if you had to alway press text to get info.

Thanks for your help!

Cheaper solution if that's really your only issue...

So you're saying to install one of these, and just run the external receiver to it? I could, and that would solve the most important issue. However, I kinda want to get rid of the external unit and clean things up a bit. I dunno...I'd really like to have it all integrated.

Doesn't anyone have the stock receiver??

I tried to order one with my car, but they said the antenna are on back order. When it is installed, I will let you know :)

I'd be curious at this aspect of it too, but I'm not optimistic. The stock JBL radio has RDS, which gets text from local FM stations, but that display has always frustrated me. It defaults to the station number, and you have to push the text button to see anything at all. But it only stays on for a few seconds. The radio stations I listen to rotate through various text messages. But the text mode doesn't stay on long enough to see all of them. So you have to go back and push it a couple of more times to see everthing. And if the text goes beyond the display, it shows a little arrow, to show you there's more, but I haven't found a way to see what was cut off.

Hopefully, the XM or Sirius text displays are better.

It's VERY annoying, but when you see the little arrow telling you there's more text, you have to press and hold the text button to see what comes next. There could be 2 or more screens to follow. This is why I wanted to know if the Sirius display would work the same. On the unit I have now, it just constantly scrolls, so I don't have to press anything.

Let me know if holding the text botton works for you...it works for me :D

I have the Toyota XM receiver. I am not happy with the JBL display for XM. At least on FM, you can see more information by hitting the Text button. With XM however, you get bupkus. Hit the Text button repeatedly and it cycles between the station number, the XM station description, the song title (first few characters only), and the artist/group (first few characters only). Very annoying.

Hmmm...that's not very promising. :( Why would Toyota do that? Seems I need to save up to a whole new HU.

Last night we went down and my 2007 SLE Convertable came in. Ok... I ordered Grey but I got a Red Car instead. Actually I am happy though as I selected Grey by looking at the picture in the book, then a few days ago I saw a grey SLE convertable, I didn't like it and was kicking myself for not ordering a red one.

Well now I am happy.

However still no Sirius radio installed in my car, they still say its on backorder. :( They said the problem is with the antenna and suggested it would be better and cheaper to buy an add on Sirius radio, however I don't want that, I have a add on sirius in my current car and I hate it, as its hooked to the winsheild with a suction cup and it keeps coming off and falling on the ground.

Another reason I want the built in Sirius is because of the fact that I have the navigation system and want to see the song info on the screen since the radio interfaces with the navigation system.

Anyone else having trouble getting a new car with Sirius?

I just brought my 2006 Solara SLE Convertible into the dealer yesterday for the 15K service and to have the Sirius receiver installed. They apparently hadn't realized when I originally made the appointment, but I was told yesterday that the Sirius receiver was not available yet for the convertible but it was expected in September 2006. They said they'd call me when it came in.

They also said the cost of the receiver was something like $380 plus 2 hours of labor (@ $85/hour at my dealership). Pretty annoying since the MSRP price listed on Toyota's web site to add it to a new Solara is $449.

I'm assuming the timing is the same for the 2007's.

Really...the dealer has not once told me that I can't get it for mine (same car). I find that interesting, since it's an option on the car when you buy it. I think they were fibbing.

Jerry - AFAIK you can't get the OEM Sirius kit with the convertible - only the XM. I'm sure you can cobble something together though if you're determined enough... ;)

WTF? Why not? Does the thing sit on top of the roof? How many times do I have to take my car in for service for them to know what it is? Fools!

I have a detached receiver already...ad was vacillating on the Toyota one becuase of the display. Looks like I'm just giving up. I'll keep what I have.

Yeah - I think it's those dorsal fin looking thingies that sit on top of the roof near the back window...

The XM must be different. Haven't seen either so I couldn't tell ya.

The antenna can go anywhere...they are usually magnetic. Silly...
