Best rear view camera add-on?

Best rear view camera add-on?

Postby pantygnome » Mon Dec 12, 2005 8:31 am

2006 Solara conv. with NAV, I was wondering what the best rear view camera add-on would be.

Ive seen references to SAVV, ViewTech, and Eclipse. Just wondering what is recommended for an 06 (which I believe means it has the reverse sense signal).

Thanks in advance!

Any idea about the new BEC105? Seems to be the 103/104, just smaller.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link, I actually ended up purchasing it from Crutchfield (couple of the Ebay auctions Ive seen advertise no warranty which is not what I like to hear about 200.00 worth of electronics :) ).

It should make a good xmas gift, wont be able to install it until the summer though. Hopefully by then someone will have a new how-to for the smaller cam (the bracket looks different than the bec103/104 setup).

Thanks again.

Will that work in the 04 Nav system. Or is the radio different from the 06 to 04?

Plug and play means just that. You plug it in and you see the camera's output on your screen. Though I think you'd want to set up a switch to be able to change from Nav screen to camera view on demand without having to plug and unplug each time.

On the 2006 model, once a BEC 103 or 04 is connected to the Nav system, will shifting the car into reverse automatically switch the Nav screen to camera mode, or must some sort of switch be installed to display the camera mode?

Switching into reverse will change the display to show what the camera is displaying. If you want to see behind you while you're not in reverse, you'll need to wire something else in (I haven't done it, just read up on it over at Siennaclug.org)

Where Mounted??? Pictures???

Postby Hummers » Fri Oct 13, 2006 9:29 am

Hi,

Where exactly is the BEC 105 camera mounted on the rear of the car?? Do holes need to be drilled?? Is it attached by Velco or what??

Anyone have any pics they can post of the exact camera install???

I think it would be great to have one mounted on my SLE Conv. since the rear view is fairly limited with the top up!!!!

Thanks

I installed teh eclipse camera on my 04. It is plug and play, it comes on in reverse only. I mounted it to the top of the license plate area, and it did require drillings a hole or two. If there is wiring already in stalled by the factory, I didn;t knwo about it and I removed seats and routed the wire all the way from back to front. It works great and really helps with the blind spot.
