finally after waiting so long i finally got my subwoofers installed. i got the brand new polk audio DB212-2 sub box and a awesome kicker amp installed today. only pushing half power on these babies and they hit so hard i cant even use my rear or side view mirrors cause the shake so much! got them at an awesome price of 370 for the subs and 300 for the amp. my guy really hooked me up with some great prices and best of all, if they blow i get new ones free! hope to get some pics up for you guys later and does anyone know of a decent after market dash kit to put in a new deck? thanks -

I'm not a fan of either dash kit out there but the black one might be okay for you if you have the black upper dash. (I have the silver lower and dark stone upper so that's not an option). So any pics of the install? I wanna see where it all went.

took ur advice and went to soundbucket. here is the link http://photobucket.com/albums/b82/mikeflaman/
also, how can i get my rearview to quit rattling like crazy? i am so incredibly impressed with this system. i can feel it thump in my chest when i turn it only half way up. many congrats to the people at polk audio. they have created an incredible product which i highly recommend to anyone wanting a high quality system. on the downside i am going to have to dynamat the whole friggin car cause of all the rattles. anyways, here it is. link should be working.

hehe, welcome to the club. Now, make sure you check bolts in the car often cause you will see them come loose in some areas. Plus you blow bulbs in the car more often. :)

Maybe some of the rattles aren't just from your upgraded system. I and others hear had rear deck rattles with the stock system. We brought it to the dealer and they realized it was a defect and put more insulation there to fix it. Did you hear any rattles before upgrading?

Congrats on the new system bro, I checked out the pics and it looks good! Polk is definitely some good stuff, I'm sure you'll enjoy it :-). Keep me posted on what's next!

Hey slingshot: What would you say the best way for me to approach the dealer on the rear deck insulation issue would be taking into consideration the following factors:

#1 I've always had the issue, even with factory system

#2 With my current system I'm hitting dbs in the mid 140s (right now I'm at 145.2db), and my dealer knows this

#3 I have COMPLETELY dynamatted my car; my ONLY issue is with the rear deck panneling...

#4 I'm lazy, and I don't really want to take the rear deck apart again... *whines* I know, I know... I should have done something the FIRST time I had it apart... but I figured the dynamatting would take care of the metal resonance etc... and didn't really think about the plastic panneling being THAT much of a nusance...

Should I even bother asking them to do anything, or should I just go ahead and take care of it myself? How much insulation did they put in there, and has it helped significantly? Either way, I don't expect any miracles (it's gonna make noise pretty much no matter what)... I also gotta figure out a way to keep it from hitting my rear windshield on the lows...

Thanks!

James

i had the rear deck rattlte also, i found that a lot of the rattle comes from rigth obove the rear deck tailight and i had to find a way t pull it down, so i got some wiring and tied it down onto the seat attachment and it really eliminated a lot of the rattle. it tottaly looks like crap but it sounds a hell of a lot better, check it out. http://photobucket.com/albums/b82/mikef ... =1&multi=2

and does anyone have any idea yet on how to stop the rearview from making so much noise?
and also for theprodigy, when i put in my infinitys, i began to notice a bad rattle and for the life of me coudlt figure it out. so i took off the rear deck and found that one of the bolts holding in my speaker had come loose and was making a lot of noise. re-tightned it and never had the prob again. who knows, maybe the solution is that simple for you.

Agreed, the trim over the center rear deck light is the main source of the issue... I will prolly wind up taking it all apart again and checking over my install to make sure all is tight (and prolly add some insulation). That's a creative solution for tying down the rear deck, I'll look more into that as well. It doesn't actually look that bad either, trim off the wire (and maybe switch to a darker color (black or coal) and it wouldn't be noticable at all! Unfortunately, my problem exceeds just the rear deck rattling against itself... it's actually hitting the rear windshield... One thing I noticed on a few cars (specifically mid 90's Integras) is the fact that their center rear deck light actually has a rubber gasket between it and the rear windshield (they are also actually bolted through the windshield, however that's not really feasible, and I wouldn't want to do it if it was)... I've been contemplating using some weather stripping and making a cushion of some sort to place there, however I'm trying to figure out how to make it look right... I'm going to play around with it and let you all know what I come up with, if anything...

I was just about to start pounding on the back deck trying to shut up the noise. I'll go down to home depot and find something to cram in there. That kind of stuff drives me nuts. My ex had a Matrix XRS 6 speed with the most awful noise coming out of the dash. I would have sold it over that if it wasn't her problem now.

My car is so quiet and nice, the stereo is sweet for stock, and that rattle is just criminal. Once it starts falling apart, I'll try to fit some JL subs in that cavernous trunk. I just don't like how every time I put in subs, the paneling and everything starts to loosen. God I miss "scare your neighbors" bass.

well, it has been close to two months for my speakers and they are sounding even better. the rear deck rattle fix i used is working really well and best of all, cost me nothing. now if i can just get taht stupid rearview mirror to quit friggin rattling. it would be awesome if someone made an aftermaket kit that matched our dash, because thats what is stopping me from putting in an aftermarket. all well, they will probably have one in about 5 years or so............

anyone here knows how to take out the factory dash?

Postby geminiz » Sat Sep 10, 2005 6:46 am

Do you guys know how to take out the factory stereo dash without damaging it.
I am trying to install subs and amps into the factory stereo.
Will I need RCA jacks or any converters other than the power cables?

I just reinstalled my system from my other car into my solara yesterday. 2 Fosgate 12's.

Right now the rear deck is rattling louder than the subs, and my rear view mirror has to be re-adjusted every 10 seconds when the music is on, because it just rattles so much it points to the ground.

If anyone comes up with a more elegant solution, please let me know
