I am looking into getting all Polk Audio components. They even have a replacement 8" sub which has its own mono power amp. When I'm done you won't be able to see a visible difference from the outside, but you'll def. be able to HEAR a difference! ;)

And no - not interested in competition and I don't listen to c-c-c-rap - so I don't need 12's and 5000 watts in my ride either!!

That's my approach as well... (although my system IS a little OVERKILL for what I need... 8) )

On the OTHER hand, I DO have a single YOUNG MC album... "Got More Rhymes", maybe? (And it has to ROCK the house for my SUB to PASS the "TEST"!)

heh heh heh....

Unfortunately, I'm SURE the "line-level" step-down I'm going to try off the STOCK H/U will not "cut it" next to a clean HEAD. (Just waiting for that IVA-205 from ALPINE!)

I'm also hoping the electronic crossover with SUB out will help me "fine tune" off the stock HU. We'll see.

even though I have a gen 1. i have the stock headunit as well for the same reason. and 2 10 in MTX with amp... it actually sounds really good many people keep thinking I have 2 12s in there or something..
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

when you say lackluster results, can you be more specific? doesnt hit hard enough? boomy? etc. also how big is your enclosure for the sub? whats the xover set on the amp..

I have a 1222D type-r and its pretty clean and tight.
Alpine + Dynaudio = Sonic bliss.

The subwoofer level was way, way too high compared to the components. I have the crossover set around 45hz.

I've gotten everything balanced out as well as possible I think by having the fade set anywhere between 3 to 5 towards the front speakers on the factory deck since the sub is tapped off the rear speakers via the line level converter.

The enclosure is the standard one they sell at Circuit City.
It's nothing great, and I'll probably get something else when I do my next phase in replacing the head unit & 6x9's.

It's sounding okay now, although I wish I could get the sub to hit deeper. I just don't feel anything in my stomach like I remember with my last system 10 years or so ago. I don't know if I need to add another 12" or if I'll be able to get more out of it when I get a new head unit and get rid of the line level converter.

Well, I got everything dialed in with around 1000 watts through 3 amps with an electronic crossover through the line-level conversion set-up off the stock head unit...

...long story short, I got it to "ROCK", but it JUST doesn't do the music justice!

I, for one, am going with an aftermarket HU now after only ONE DAY with the step-down setup.

Exactly Crisp.... I'm dyinggggggggg to get an aftermarket in my dash. Crutchfield says my deck is ready... oh crap I just checked opened a new tab and checked and it's "in stock" now! I might run to Best Buy today to see if they have them since I don't know how to install my own HU.
