This had been my plan for some time now... stock HU and run the "line-level" auxiliary box to provide me the RCA's to my amps. That way I'd be "stealthy" and stage my upgrades with speakers and amps... then come back to the HU later.

Just recently, I've begun to consider doing the HU first... biggest reason is:

"step-down" from stock HU has TWO deficits working against it...

1) Stock HU is not the "cleanest"...
2) Converting to line-level will "add" to the noise...

I STILL might start with the step-down and then go to a HU... not sure. Regardless... current budgeting DICTATES a PHASED upgrade. Since I HAVE amps laying around... if I just run the 4gage and blocks, throw my current amps in, all I need are my component speakers in the front to get started on improved "staging" and overall performance.

(Keep us posted of YOUR progress and choices... I'm interested in what others try as well. )

Good luck with your project! Keep us updated with pics alrite?

Good luck with your project too Crisp. Why not just go with after market HU from the start? I think it'll be worth it in the end...

I'm sure you are right... I'm just not sure I can bite off BOTH a HU and SPEAKERS at once... (I am covered on amps until I get something newer... I've got at least 5 or 6 stout "old-skool" sitting around...

haha, 5 or 6? and you never sold them? Sure like collecting the... "classics" eh? haha... but you don't HAVE to get a HU and speakers at once right? just do it one at a time... as money comes in
