Hacking the OEM Navi unit

I did a search, but nothing came up except car-computer stuff.

I know that if you hit the menu, then volume, and hit the upper left, then bottom left, then repeat, it pulls up a service menu that lets you over-ride the fact that you need to be stopped to input a destination.

What else is possible from that menu. I am too afraid to play with it.

Is there a way to hack this unit? I would love to just be able to change some of the graphics or some other simple things.

I would love to submit this to opensource and see if they could help, but I don't know if thats something they could do, or if I am tottally way off base there. lol

Thanks.

Note, it would be sweet to make a car-computer with the factory navi screen :)

Philosophicaljt-- I just put this site on for a different question about the Toyota nav system. I think it may more apply to your question.

My son has an 07 ES 350 and the entire website is trying to override/bypass the system. Start with post # 122.

Hope this helps

^^you rock, thanks. I already bought a carputer the other day, and was trying to find a way to hook this up to the navi, but it is not working. (I am still reading manuals though)
