Front 6x9 Speakers

Front 6x9 Speakers

Postby cklinh » Tue Apr 03, 2007 8:04 am

Hm... a search for "speakers" in this forum only came up with two threads?... something is not right here...

Anyways... here's the reason for the thread...

I'll be taking apart my door panels to get at the sideview mirrors, and thought, "hey, since the door panels are gonna be off for the next few weeks, why not change the speakers while I'm at it?"...

So, I need suggestions for speakers based on the following criteria:

1) Must fit (duh!)
2) Must work without an additional amp (I have the Navi system/JBL amp, I'm assuming I'll just have to tap into the two existing wires at the harness?)
3) Reasonably priced (<$200/pair)
4) Must be a discernible improvement over the stock speakers...

I may want to switch out the back speakers as well when I have time, and would prefer matching brands/models.

I listen mostly to dance music with some rap/hip hop thrown in. I already have a sub.

Additionally, how easy/hard was it to get at the tweeters up front?

Thanks for the help guys.

Personally- i'd go w/ POLK MOMO or POLK DB just cuz those speakers move at very small amounts of wattage- but the magnet/magnet cap is somewhat huge so this might be a problem if your door panel mounting is shallow.. i placed mines in the rear and they work great for $130!

Hey Bro,

For Sub $200 6x9s that you plan to run off of factory power, Check out Infinity KAPPA692.7I (the 693s are too bright for my personal liking), Alpine SPR-69C, and Polk db690 (or db691, which is the newer model)... There are other good speakers out there, but those will give you a good start... They will all run well without much power and will DEFINITELY sound better than the factory speakers... No need to any higher end unless you plan to amp them (the higher you go, the needier the speakers will get).

The dash speakers are simple to get to. Unsnap the A-Pillars, remove a few bolts (I believe one for the speaker covers, two for the speakers) and you're done. I'd leave these OUT (do not replace them). Your new speakers will more than compensate for them, and if you leave them in the high range sounds may clash due to the different speaker materials (it will also be overly bright)...

Take care,

-James

Anyone know if the Infinity Kappa 692.7i's will clear the front windows? Modification needed?

I believe they will, but worst case scenario you can fabricate a 1/4" MDF spacer to line the factory plastic speaker mounts. Quite easy to do.

I have the 6x9 Infinity Kappas in the fron and u do need a little bit of space. I think we used extra washers to give a bit of space.

Cool... one last thing... same set of speakers (kappa 692.7i's) good for the rear?

I know size-wise, it'd fit, but sound-wise?

Yeah, I was looking at your Infinity thread and was gonna ask to see if you had anything else not listed :) Get back to me if you have those.

If it's good enough for the front, it's good enough for the rear (the front is what matters) ;-)

Thanks for all the help guys.

I decided on the Kappa 693.7i's... picked them up for about $130/pair (picked up two pairs)...

I understand that's a pretty damn good price for an authorized reseller, so if anyone is interested, pricematching at sounddomain is your best friend :)

Now... time to think about replacing my RF subs with Infinity ones... (I'm anal about matching things :)

^^^ Post some pics of your project and progress! (Since I just went through all that... I'd be interested in YOUR experience!)

Let us know how YOU install the REAR speakers... as the STOCK mount/bolt locations are TOO FAR spread out (for the OVERSIZE stock stamped basket) and required a "creative solution" in my case...

Good Luck!
