Replace HU with 07 version

Replace HU with 07 version

Postby reelss » Thu Jan 04, 2007 9:43 pm

I have a non-jbl HU and want to replace it with an 07 JBL unit (6 CD Changer + MP3). My question is...can this be done? I know some folks here have successfully replaced JBL HUs with 07 HUs. Not sure if non JBLs would still work. If it can be done, what extra parts if any do i need?

Secondly, where can i get the HU from? I tried ebay but none can be found there.

As always, any help greatly appreciated!

the guy auctions one every now and then. Keep an eye out. Not sure if it works for you. I have no idea what they leave out for that non-JBL setup.

Thanks...i got in touch with the guy and am working with him.

But first, i need to figure out if the unit i get will work with my non-jbl setup. Would anyone here know? Has anyone tried to upgrade their setup to JBL? Thanks!

I'd take the '07 HU off your hands if it DOESN'T work with your HU setup! I'd like to have the BLUE illumination, myself.... :D

BTW, how much are they going for?

If I had to guess, i would say that it wouldnt work.

The JBL version requires the JBL amp.

thats what most people seem to be saying. The ebay seller said so too, but no onw's sure.

would you or anyone happen to know how i would be able to make it work? would i need an aftermarket amp perhaps?

non jbl = amp inside the headunit

jbl = external amp

JBL switching to NON JBL = doable, just bypass the amp and rewire

NON JBL to JBL = Doable IF you have the amp... and tons of rewiring.

That should answer all your questions.

Good luck

Oh... it's definately blue. Either your HU or your eyes are broken. (see tutorial w/ pics. hosting's down atm so check later.)

Crisp, I'm adding some comments on the functionality of the MP3 playing so you know what you're getting.

You're right, It's a very subtle blue, not really noticeable unless you pay attention to it. BTW in another post you showed a pic of the hvac display being green in an '07, mine are both blue.
