Need Advice: Location of Backup Camera Monitor

Will be having one put in my 2007 convertible, nav. screen or rearview mirror? Mirror means losing factory compass rearview, which is no big deal to me. Both will need a button to operate, on and off. One thing I forgot car already has factory nav., so that is why it can use screen.

You'd also lose the auto dimming feature of the rearview mirror.

Thanks, forgot that. You are right. One more thing, cost is about $200 less with rearview.

If I were having it done, I'd rather keep the auto dim in the rearview, since the lights behind you can be VERY bright at night with the top down. I'm sure you have experienced this.

200 Less? with rearview?

Postby EyeDoc » Mon Sep 11, 2006 6:51 am

Sorry if I'm wrong. I'm a new 07 SLE Convertible owner myself. The BEC-105 rear view camera is only 239.99 @ Circuit City and it is plug and play with your Nav. I am planning on installing this in my vert once my cash situation allows. Also, with the convertible you need all the rear view mirror you can get. I would not want part of it taken up with and LCD. My opioin only.

Button to operate Camera.

One more thing, the BEC-105 camera is a reverse sensing camera, meaning that once the car is in reverse, the image displays on your NAV. No button is needed. Guys don't be too rough on me if I'm incorrect.

EyeDoc... correct for 2004-2006... but not 2007. There's another thread floating around here that shows that the back of the 07 Navi is missing the camera connector...

Great info

Postby EyeDoc » Tue Sep 12, 2006 2:50 pm

Thanks for the input, I almost bought the BEC-105 for my car. You guys just saved me 239.99 plus labor. I will look thru the other posts for a (hopefully) plug and play solution.

Did some research... if you really wanted to... you can use the BEC's with the 07 navi... it's just not plug and play... the guys over at siennaclub.org know the navi system inside and out...

(you'd have to read through the thread... again... only if you want to do all the legwork...)

BEC-105 and 07 Nav unit

Postby EyeDoc » Wed Sep 13, 2006 12:25 pm

OK, BEC-105 is not plug and play, but close. According to siennaclub forum you need to connect the camera's 4 wires to their proper pins in the R10 connector. Pin 24 Camera power Pin 22 Camera Image Signal Pin 23 Shielded ground, and Pin 21 Ground. If anyone has done this Let me know what type of pins etc. that you used.

Thanks.[/img]

I just came back from having my camera installed. I had it done by an after market place. It did cost over $800. They had to use some mod. they found, made just for the 2007 Solara nav. unit. My car was the first one it was put into, works well. No button, goes on when car is put in reverse. Cost was parts and labor. I will put the web address on if it does not break any rules.

Back up Camera

Postby EyeDoc » Mon Sep 18, 2006 7:11 am

Hey Vice,

Please post more specifics about your camera, What brand, viewing angle, lux, anything you think might be helpful. I am planning on intalling this thing myself so I'm looking for all the info I can get.

Thanks,

yes you can, as long as it's personal experience and not blatant advertising (at least that's what I've seen...)
