Thinking about installing Pioneer AVIC-D1 navigation

I have been checking this navigation system out for a while. I have been hearing several different opinions regarding the installation. The main problem I've been hearing is the dash. Does anyone have any information on what is necessary to make this happen? If I do need something special to do it, then where should I look on the internet? Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Here's what the AVIC-D1 looked like in my car. Just keep in mind that it does not play dvd movies, only dvd navigational disc.

That was the biggest downfall of this unit. Otherwise, the touch screen and everything else was superb. The only reason you're seeing a movie on the screen is because I have an external dvd changer connected to it.

As for the dash kit, it's American International.

Damn Mike I didn't know anything about no Pioneer Avic in your ride, it looks so clean! I came close to getting the Avic myself but I opted for the Valor unit. This way I was able to get a capacitor and save more money for an Optima yellow-top.

btw, did you lose your steering controls mike?

heres mine with the Metra Dash kit:

(i now have the OE Navigation dash kit, if you're interested I can get you the part #. Matches with the silver too) :P

...steering wheel is now clean.

I lost my steering wheel controls bro. I'm looking into getting an adapter to fix that later on. Haven't had much time lately.

I dig your set up bro and the Valor double din looks hella clean too bro.

Thanks!!! That looks tight. I'm loving this website already. How much did the navigation system and the panel run you?

I haven't had any time to even thinking about replacing the stock speakers; they seem to be fine for the time being. Perhaps in the future if I can get some ICE sponsorships, but no plans as of now.

The sound quality seems fine, but could always be better, however, I've adjusted all of my sound to the front now because my almost 4 month old daughter is back there and I try not to have the music up when she's in the car w/ me.
