Hi Jay

I do not have any pictures from the back seat. However if you want some

ideas what to do with your single Nav/Radio combination unit here we go:

1.) get XM Sat preinstalled by factory instead of dealer (most dealers will

make a mess of your new car installing it.) [They do not come prewired.]

2.) install an Eclipse backup camera BEC104 and it plugs right in to your

Navigation unit.

3.) install a Toyota ViewTech 2005 Controller and dvd/tv player so you

watch local television stations and dvd's on your navigation screen. Here

is the link for where to get a ViewTech Controller.

http://coastaletech.com/viewtech_2005.htm

Here is another link where to get a small DVD/TV Combo unit for a good

price and they also have headrest screens for the rear passengers.

http://www.mp3playerstore.com/

And of course you could get an SLE without Navigation and go Eclipse all

the way
and it would provide for a cleaner install because the DVD video

is built in. Wait a few weeks for the new Eclipse unit with the built in

hard drive (music-keg). I believe it will be sirius sat compatible. It will

cost the same as trying to upgrade oem toyota nav unit to play dvd's

and will be a lot nicer with faster reroute times and 5 volt preouts.

The best part being that the Eclipse AVN plugs right in to the SLE's wiring

harness with no wire cutting. Caution note: you have to get the SLE

with the upgraded JBL system to plug and play.

Here is a link to the new Eclipse AVN5495 and for my two cents worth if

this was available when I got my OEM Navigation in my 2005 Solara I

would go with the eclipse AVN5495 with a BEC104 rearview camera in a

heartbeat. To me it is a no brainer. All the big boys in Forida in their

Range Rovers and decked out Hummers are running with Eclipse AVN

units with rear-view cameras and that should tell you something.

Long winded but I hope this helps.

Just curious, have you, or anyone else, actually installed this?

The Viewtech is so new I doubt whether anyone has installed one in a

Solara. As you see from their website their first priority is for their Prius

customer base. They will be available soon however. Seems like a good

option if you already have a factory Nav unit. I know it was a long time in

development.

If someone has a jump on this technology I would also be interested in

the outcome.

The Eclipse AVN is double din and will replace the double din JBL 6-disk

changer. the only part you need from Toyota is a new panel instrument

assembly and the part # 55420-AA010 for a list price of $51.04.

This is the piece that comes when you order OEM Navigation and is a

perfect colour match. I should know because this is is the second one

I had to order because silver plastic dash parts get marked (damaged)

so easily and that is part of the game. That is why Toyota usually has

them available within 2 days from the dealer.

Oh well the Cadillac Escalade dash trim is way worse. You just breath on

it and it is marked for good.

If you look at the dash of brand new Solara's you will see what I mean.

Some have marks and none of them have the same gaps between the

radio and climate controls right from the factory.

I would also recommend that if you go with the Toyota XM system having the antenna replaced with an aftermarket one. The one from toyota is huge and looks like a big brownie sitting on your trunk.

If your getting the convertible I would install the back up camera as well, it's very helpfull when backing with the top up.

hax311,

Mad props bro! So glad to see this custom setup. I've looked at doing something similiar but, I went a different route. I didn't have a need for the navi, but wanted the DVD sys option. Still working on my ICE at the moment. CC did a very nice job btw. :D
