08 Solara Convert bluetooth

I just bought an '08 Solara convertible and it is great so far.
I didn't get the NAV, cause they didn't have on on the lot with NAV so I want to add one.

Has anyone used a portable gps unit that broadcasts the directions over blluetooth? I assume the unit would act like an incoming call and mute the audio, say the directions, then unmute the audio. I've heard the TomTom 720 does broadcast bluetooth, but I don't know anyone with one to test.

Also I get a "phantom ring" on the head unit, which I think is generated by my cell phone, a Samsung MM A920. Does anyone use a Sprint bluetooth phone with this system with no problems? If so, please let me know what phone you have so I can trade mine in.

Great forum!

Thanks.

Sounds like your speakers aren't magneticly sheilded if your getting phantom ring. I find this in a lot of cars and people with cheap home strereos. As for the bluetooth, i've never seen one that broadcasts over bluetooth, i know that the tomtom units have bluetooth to sync with a laptop, or to act as a speaker phone with your cell. If you got the JBL system, you could add the factory nav to your car yourself.

Welcome Rich!

Your Gen 2.5 is one of the last Solaras that will be made. (2008 is the final year before it is discontinued)

We haven't had many 2.5 tutorials on the the new features such as Bluetooth. When you get it all figured out, please post up a "How to." I'll add it to the collection of tutorials in the Gen2 section.

Look forward to seeing pics of your new ride!

Welcome to SG
