Part # for XM Tuner

Part # for XM Tuner

Postby linmk2 » Sun May 21, 2006 11:05 pm

Was wondering if anyone knows the correct Toyota part number for the XM tuner that would fit a 2006 Convertible with factory Nav? As always, thanks in advance for your help.

I think I've found the correct part #. It is PT546-06051. Can anyone confirm? Thanks.

I looked it up at a dealer's web site and I found PT546-06050 is the part number listed for a 2006 convertible.

http://www.toyotapartsstore.com/product ... ts_id=4543

If you buy one are you going to install it yourself or let a dealer do it? If you do it yourself I'd be very much interested in finding out how the install went and did you run into many snags.

I've seen the installation instructions for this and it looks like a lot of work until you see what a dealer charges to install it. I think I would give it a shot as the tuner alone is very expensive without any installation. (298.27 at the link above.)

Keep us posted on your status if you decide on a self install.

It's interesting to note, all the different part #'s. Based on what i've been able to find 0651 is for the convertible. I'm not sure what the difference is. I have not made up my mind if I'm going to get it, but I might try to install it myself if I do. The biggest issue is my car is only a few months old and does not have a single scratch or mark on it. I don't want to screw something up. I'm most concerned about the gauge cover on top of the dash. It looks like one slip of the screw driver and you would have a mess-up piece. My dealer want $525 for the whole thing that includes being
installed and that seems out of line. I thank Reggie for the offer and may contact you. The only other installation I might attempt myself is an Eclispe BEC 105 rear camera. Again, I must take the center gauge cover off. From what I can tell it's just plug and play. I do have the rear back up sensors so I'm wondering if that installation my have changed the way the camera works. From other posts, it seems you install it, place the car in reverse and there you go.

You also need to buy the fit kit for the convertible.

EDITED: I may be wrong and you may not need a fit kit. I know there is one for the Sirius setup, because I just ordered it. Fit kit is long antennae wire and mouting bracket for the radio module, etc. I really thought there was one for XM also, but don't seem to find a part number.

Yeah, dealer wants too much money to install, when you can get receivers from Circuit City for $99. Of course, they are not Toyota and probably won't work, but still, why is the Toyota receiver so expensive???

Ahem... because it's "Toyota" perhaps?

Why is a ground effects package only about 500-750 new with a sport package and almost $2000 if you buy the individual parts?

They're just plain theavin' bastards!!

Here's the fact sheet from XM for Toyota dealers.

http://xmro.xmradio.com/dealerportal/br ... toyota.pdf

It also shows dealer cost and MSRP. Does anyone know what PPO pricing is? Is that price including install?

XM radio for 07 without JBL radio

Postby huntmiller » Fri Sep 08, 2006 7:32 am

Hello,
I've got a 07 Solara Sport Convertable without the JBL sound package. It does have the panasonic 6 CD radio that looks identical to the one that ships with the JBL sound system which is also made by Panasonic. My owners manual says my radio is xm satalite ready and needs only a tuner and antenna. Lots of sources I have read say that the Toyota XM kit for the solara only works with the JBL radio. Does anybody have a non-JBL radio with xm? Does anybody know what the difference is between the 6 CD head unit and the JBL 6 CD head unit? It looks to me that the only difference is the JBL has the external Amp I might assume is for the Subwoofer. If you buy the external amp will it work with the non-JBL radio? Can you connect the head unit to the amp using the wireing harness of the car or does it require a adidtional cable? Any info would be appreciated. I want my XM!
