Paint for brake calibers

Paint for brake calibers

Postby michaels artic frost » Wed Jun 16, 2004 8:42 am

I'm looking into painting my brake calibers and would like to know what type or brand of paint to use. I know they make brake caliber paint, but I'd just like to get some feedbacks from those who has done this.

I'm looking to paint them red. I thought about white or pearl, but it'd get dirty too easy. Any suggestions?

As always, your feedbacks are much appreciated.

funny cuz I'm about to get mine painted red too. But yes they make paint for them, not sure how to get it though cuz my friend is doing it for me at his shop. I know the paint he used was actually called Caliper Red though and I think he had to sand them down first.

Well, then we are thinking the same about our cars.

Take a look at these pictures from my buddy Mr2 Spyder, he just painted them 2 weeks ago, he used G2 paint, you can get it also off Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7905023335&category=33563

OH MY!!! OH YEA!!! Gonna have to give the red treatment. Thanks for the pics. I'm gonna try to do this weekend or maybe tonight...lol. I might not go to bed at all...haha...jk.

However $19 for the paint and shipping is $13, $32 bucks is a bit much. I just checked at a local store and it was only $15. I guest shipping really adds up.

Hey erasat, I noticed that your top folds up nicely and doesn't leave that bulge I see on other convertable Solaras. I like the nice clean line of it that way. Also, in regards to painting your calipers: it's easy as day and you can paint with the caliper on as long as you are careful. I did that to my 3000GT and it looked sweet. Plan on touching them up every year, because the extreme change in temps and whther along with the heat dissapated from the breaks will cause cracking. The best way to go, honestly, is powder coating them. Not more expensive if you look at how many bottles you will go through. The huge downfall is the calipers must be removed and yiou won't have use of the car until the process is completed.

You shouldn't drive your car for 24 hours to allow the paint to dry.

Hey, I think the bulge you're talking about is a cover that goes over the fold. I saw it while I was test driving the convertible... sorta turned me off of the convertible... that and the small rear window.

Edited to add something about calipers... I'm thinking about doing this too (after reading this thread)... help me decide on which color to get for my Cosmic Blue Metallic... same as engslut's... I'm thinking either blue or black... red is too flashy for me 8)

Edited again to provide more thoughts... anyone know where I can get a "Solara" stencil? It'd be kick arse to have that stenciled on top of the caliper paint... I'm thinking black lettering on blue calipers to go with my black pearl emblems/cosmic blue metallic exterior. Any comments?

One more edit... found this thread that was talking about a stencil as well... http://www.zer0.info/solaraguy/viewtopi ... ht=stencil

darn, it just hit me, it'd be pretty hard to have a stencil for "Solara" because of the o and a's. Maybe a decal?

I did a little research on this and bought the G2 paint also. I won't get a chance to do my brake upgrade before the MIR event on June 26/27 but right after that I will start (rotors, pads, SS lines and caliper/hub paint). -JoeB

This might be something I wanna check out at some point - I've got the black convertible....so, black might be what I gotta go with...

Hmm.

You'll need an image station account to see the pics, but they are great shots.

You can check out my sounddomain site for pics of my brakes. They still look great 1.5 years later. I went through 3 cans of VHT high heat caliper paint.

I dunno about red calipers on a blue car.... :-? If you paint them silver to match the wheels that would look good.
