Opinions with Wheel and Tire upgrade
I know this is getting to be a rather trite question, but here goes. I'm looking to upgrade the wheels and tires on my 2005 Solara SE V6. I currently have the 16" Rims with 215/60/R16 tires, but I want something with more "pop". I trying to decide between upgrading to the American Racing Mavericks (17 X 7) with Hankook Ventus V4 ES H104 Tires (215/55/ZR17) or American Racing Mavericks 18 x 8 Hankook Ventus V4 ES H104 Tires (235/45/ZR18). BTW, the 18 x 8 Mavericks have a 40+ offset.
I know the 17 x 7 Rims, with the 215/55/17 tires, is the "safe" route to go, (i.e., no rubbing and no mods required), but it's not much of an upgrade. The 17 x 7 Maverick Rims, with the Hankook 215/55/17 tires, is essentially what I'd have if I had a Solara SE Sport or the Convertible.
Ideally, I love to go with the (18 x8) American Racing Mavericks and the Hankook Ventus V4 ES H104 (235/45/ZR18) tires. But, I DO NOT want any potential rubbing and I DO NOT want to "mod" the Solara's body, (i.e., Fender Rolling or lowering), in-order to achieve a "rub free" ride. In other words, can I go with the 18" "Combo" on a stock 2005 Solara SE V6?
