TRD RSB Bushing Noise

TRD RSB Bushing Noise

Postby kin0kin » Fri Apr 24, 2009 6:36 am

Hey folks. I've been using the TRD RSB for some time now and it has been making a lot of clunking noise. The bushing itself is worn and when I brought it to the mech, he says the bushing is very hard/stiff, and it is so hard that it stripped off some of the paint on the bushing. I asked him to lube it, which then solved the noise problem for 2 weeks and it's back again. I'm in Canada and weather is cold + dry most of the time. When I installed the RSB, I used Castrol Syntec grease (couldn't find mobil 1), it was good throughout summer, fall, but once winter hits....clunk clunk clunk....anybody having the same issue or if there's anything particular that I can do to soften the rubber, or any particular grease that will keep the bushing going for a longer time.

What ASG14 did for me was to wrap the bushing's outer area with teflon as well as the bar where the bushing meets with teflon. I think 2-3 wraps should do it.

^x2 Putting teflon tape between both the bar and the bushing as well as the bushing and the bracket definately works. The tape is key.

I have to confess that I did not do a search before asking the question :p I did a search after that and called my mechanic to try out the teflon tape fix. Going to get it fixed, again, this coming Monday. Is 2-3 layers realy enough? I was gonna do 6 layers or so as per the original post (from another thread). :D

I don't know about the other folks but my 2004 solara was making a lot of noises here and there and I stripped the whole interior off and almost rebuilt the whole car. I'm still having a few noise issues that I'm trying to solve. I noticed that if I keep my roof opened, driving at 70km or so would cause the interior door to rattle like ****.

I've had the same problem, and am currently using teflon tape and Mobil 1 synthetic grease, but I still have to re-apply every now and then.

But I've read really good stuff about this Dupont grease, and it's really easy to apply. I thought I might try it next time.

Has anyone here tried it?

I've seen it. I personally sprayed jig-a-loo (invisible teflon lube) and greased the crap out of the bushing with castrol syntec when I first installed it. I'm definitely gonna see if the teflon tape fixes this problem.

You might want to make sure that the bushings haven't worn on the inside and become out-of-round. That might cause it to rub regardless of the grease/tape.

I've also noticed that the bushings run real close to the elbow of the RSB - too close. I've always wondered if that causes excessive rubbing if the RSB happens to lean to one side during a turn. But I doubt that's the problem.

What about finding some TEFLON bushings that are the same size as the TRD bushings? That'll eliminate the need for grease, teflon paste, etc... altogether!
