Exhaust on my 4cyl

Exhaust on my 4cyl

Postby jdv5900 » Tue May 20, 2008 8:09 am

I am planning on having my exhaust piping bent to 2.5" to free up some pressure on my stock exhaust, because the trd muffler I have doesn’t do much because of the restrictive stock piping. I thought that since I was reworking my exhaust, why not look into a full new exhaust system starting with the heads. I contacted Kooks Custom Headers, Located in Bayshore NY (Long Island), which is only 20 minutes from me. This is how the correspondence went. I think their rough estimate is a LITTLE steep

I have been looking to rework the exhaust on my slightly customized 2005 Toyota solara. There is no after market header available for my model. I have replaced my muffler with a TRD muffler. I am now considering having new piping bent to have a wider diameter (2.5") because the muffler is basically useless with the restrictive stock piping. I before I get the piping redone I am looking to possibly upgrade the entire exhaust system starting with the heads. Please give me any and all information on what it would take to make custom headers, and also a full exhaust, preferably using the new trd performance muffler i recently purchased. I live in Merrick which is less than 30 minutes from your Bayshore facility. Once again please give me any info as to what you can do for me. If you can not help me please refer me to another local shop that might be able to work with me.

Thank you,

Jason Vicari

In order to make you a custom header and exhaust system we would need to have the car in our facility for about 3 weeks. We do not normally do headers on your type of vehicle, so I could not give you a exact price in order to do the job. The entire thing would probably be in the range of $3200-3750.

Thanks,

Chris Clark.

you can get a custom header from JPP header.
they make one for 4 cyl solara, and it works on your car.
also it should not cost that much to do the custom exhaust.
i have my cat-back done for around $500, and even with header back, it won't be more than 1000, i think.

Really. I thought there was only a jp for the 6cyl... well now the question becomes price and other labor involved. How much does the jp header cost. Also what kind of problems will it give me after install (ex. cel, emissions tests, etc)

I think ronin modified a Scion tC header and got it to fit perfectly. Much better than going $3k custom... like somebody said, you could get complete turbo system for the price of the custom exhaust manifold.

I just got off the phone with Jp. They said that they have headers in stock for the 4cyl. I forget exactly which engine model he said (i dont even know which i have). He said they are $350 not including o2 sensor. He also told me that replacing the header does make the car illegal. He told me that the install is very simple if you are even slightly mechanincally enclined.... so if i felt like it i guiess i could change between stock and aftermarket headers when racing/ not racing (aka before / after emissions testing). In my case ( being a high school student) it is not worth it for me, but i thought i would share the price and the availabilty with you all!
