Special Trick To Replacing Right Fog Bulb?

Special Trick To Replacing Right Fog Bulb?

Postby Gadgetjq » Thu May 31, 2007 1:43 pm

I'm looking at replacing the stock bulbs with Nokya's and know quite a few forum members have been here, done this.

High beam/low beam piece o' cake. Left (drivers side) fog is a little tight reaching through the grille but I can get fingers on it. The right (passenger) side though.....I dunno.

Before I just start experimenting with panel removal is the right side easy to reach if I remove the right side belly pan or is there another way (besides hiring a 6 year old) to reach that puppy? Maybe it's just a matter of persistence?

If there's a trick I'm ready to hear it before actually ordering the bulbs.

Thanks!

Yea theres a trick theres three screws you take them off and pull the panel down and it allows you to gain access to the bulb.. the panel im talking about has a circular hole when you look up when under the car.

Not really a trick... I just went through the wheel well. Turn the wheels to the opposite direction that you're working on, remove a few clips/plastic holders, and you can partially peel back the plastic liner.

The underside is another way to go, but you have to remove more screws.

Thanks gents, that's very helpful. At least now I know for sure the only way to the goal is through panels.

Cheers

Since I tore-out all that crazy plastic crap under the front end, I can just reach right under and swap mine out now! :D

I went through under. Took me 10 mins to swap out both bulbs. It was a sinch! BTW I put in the Nokya "yellow" bulbs on my fogs now :)

^^ Same here. I know you'll see me bitch about the yellow fogs in other threads but I finally caved in after seeing a few Lexus and Bimmers in my area with them - and I just couldn't stand to see the OEM dull color against my HIDs anymore! Never could find a bulb that matched close enough to my HIDs either, so I just figured WTF! Now I'm happy with them, though it's mostly for looks than actual function, since the HIDs overpower any real light they give off.

^^But CRUCIAL when you get the cheap HID replica halogens; light output is crap without them!

Just put 3000k HID in your fogs and you would love them. The lighting its so much better. I love driving with them.

Which brings up another question. I've noticed Nokia bulbs are (roughly) half the price of PIAA for what 'appears' to be a comparable bulb. On the other hand most of the manufactuers cite the "wattage" output of their bulb rather than actual lumens from a specific distance.

Is there a measurable difference between brands in light output and lifetime to warrant spending quite a bit more on PIAA or other name brand rather than something like Nokia?

I actually have the yellow fogs myself and IMO I think there definitely is a decline in the light output and also the quality of the bulbs. I only got them because I wanted some cheap alternative from stock until they burn out and I upgrade to HID or somewhat. The thing is...I've had it for couple years now (2-3) and it's still going good

Spending 85 some odd dollars for a pair of bulbs is a bit much for me. After having PIAA's in my previous car for a bit and having them burn out every couple months wasn't worth it.
