Solara Convertible windscreen no longer available

(post moved to this forum)

I recently called 2 toyota dealers in LA, and both told me that the Windscreens for the solara convertible are no longer available.

Anyone else have this problem? the first guy implied that Toyota has halted sales until they fix a problem.

Anyone have a similar experience?

That problem was resolved last April. THe dealers have their heads up their arse for not researching it for you! Make sure when you find an intelligent dealer (there are a couple here in the forums - NVDIS1 and Jackass-Jeff, that can help you I'm sure - and save a buck or two as well) - that you call those idiots up and tell the parts manager that they're full of crap! ;)

Do a search for the Windscreen - you'll learn a lot from what we've gone through already.

Good luck!

Just bought my Solara Sport convertible yesterday (yay!) and wanted a windscreen bad, bad, bad. Two different dealers consulted with their parts departments and told me that this part is "stop ordered" as Toyota has received reports that several have taken wing and flown off, much to the chagrin of those driving the Solaras to which they were attached. No one knows when they will be made available again but I hope that they will - tres cool!

Again - you guys are talking to the WRONG PEOPLE!!

Unfortunately, Toyota Dealer's Parts Depts aren't always current with their part No's. - or their information!

I'll try to post this in every "new" Windscreen post that pops-up...

Part# is PT906-06041

New shipments are making their way to dealers this month (Jan 07) - but contact Reggie here on SG (NVDIS1) and he'll hook you up! ;)

Just added it to the a/m list sticky. Put it in the TRD section. Close enough.

I wonder if they're taking back the old screens.

Windscreens are back in stock

Postby jerryss » Tue Feb 27, 2007 4:49 pm

I just came back from my local Toyota dealer. The NEW windscreens have arrived at the parts depot. :)

Mine should be here in a day or 2. I'll let you know if it's different from the current ones.

Cool - take some pics of it installed - would be good to compare them. ;)

Glad to hear you finally found one! :D

I've still got June's windscreen. We never had any problems with it, so anyone know what kind of changes they are making? I'm wondering if the people that had theirs fly off, had messed up on installation...

I can only imagine that's it. I t wasn't an easy DIY project to install for the average person and if you don't align the tab right putting it on, then it can be loose as well.

I did have problem with the thing folding down or wobbling but some JB Weld took care of that! I NEVER cared to flip mine down anyway - couldn't see the purpose in that. ;)

Well, I just got the solara back from the dealer. Windscreen is installed. :)

Maybe it's more complicated than it looks, but what did they do?

They seem to have drilled 2 holes on either side for the car, for teh windscreen to slide into. And that's it.

Also the windscreen seems to flop forward and back a little. Is this consistent with what everyone else has?

^^ Yup - do a search on "Windscreen" and you'll read all about it. You have to tear the back all out to mount brackets down inside and use a cutting tool to make the holes - messy and a bitch to align everything just right.

And you'll also read that it's a bit sloppy - even after tightening the CRAP outta the bitch - which is why I mentioned the JB Weld. No more flop. ;)
