brake (not big brake kit)

brake (not big brake kit)

Postby tacti » Sun Oct 29, 2006 6:33 pm

i've searched around and only after market brakes i could found on sg was big brake kit with a lot of $$$.
when i googled, i could had few after market brake for gen2 as well..
the one i came across was by SP Performance.

http://www.sp-performance.com/SPHOME.HTM

does anyone who have experience with this brand, or know any other brand who makes drilled disc for gen2?

i saw a few on ebay, but don't really want to rely my life on those ebay brakes....

i know the factory brakes a good, but i kind of want to have drilled one for the looks and two for a little more stopping performance (if there are any).

again, i'm not really looking for big brake kit that will cost me $2,000.
something it just replace the stock brakes.

any suggestion??

Thanks I start looking into the stainless steel lines and pads.
what are the brands that i should look into?
so far, i found wilwood and stoptech.
seems like wilwood sells different lines separate, so i need to know how many of what time i need to have, while stoptech sells as a set, so i don't have to know ho many of what lines i need to have.

and there are so many pads available from different company and i'm not sure what would be the best one yet. a lot of research and reading is ahead of me.. ^^;

anyways. do you also have any brake roter/disc recommendation?

Because I used to be able to get them for relatively cheap, Axxis Ultimates with OEM rotors did the job for me.

thanks for the advice.
i couldn't find axxis ultimate pads for 04 solara, but as you recommended, i think i'm going to start with a SS brake lines.

does anyone know if stoptech is good or not, i've found only 2 brands, stoptech, and R1 Concepts.

eventually i would like to go with drilled rotors and semi-metallic pads.
(again, i found few brands carry solara... does anyone know SP Performance?)

finally, does anyone have any recommendation on where to buy?
I'm looking at stoptech homepage, buybrakes.com, and importperformance.com.
are there any other places you recommend??

Stoptech is like THE brake company, so it would be a good idea to go with them :P

And also, drilled rotors don't add much performance value and tend to eat away pads.

probably i will order ss brake lines sometime next week from stop tech.

I've heard that the slotted brake rotor will eat up the pads, but is it the same for the drilled one?

I might not do any rotor/pads replacement anytime soon. so that i can use up the current one. (still need to re-surface the rotor tho..)
again thanks for the advice!

It's in a book that I have, but slotted and drilled rotors are not good ideas. I don't want to go into it, but stick to regular rotors.

i used to have slotted rotors on my 91 olds station wagon, my braking was badass for a 5700 lb car, dramatically better distances and feel, did not have any issues eating up pads, i dont know if its just the amount of pad material for that car, but i would make the same assumption for our gen 2's....i personally one day will put some slotted rotors on my ride, i hate the spongy feel with that Fantastical fade that one experiences

Did you eventually get the SS brake lines from Stoptech? And if you did, how are they working out for you. I want to upgrade to SS sometime within the next coupe of months along with new pads and rotors. Once again, if you got them, feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rohan

i recommend EBC green brake pad + brembo oem rotor + stainless steel brake line + better and wider tires. you will have kickass brake power right there

I haven't been on this thread for a while...
I've got R1 Concept rotors and pads, and stoptech brake lines.

brake line installation is pending, since the installer told me that the brake line i've got, have a wrong thread, and it does not fit.
i've contacted the service, and i'm trying to resolve the issue.
I'll post the feedback once everything is installed.

brake rotors and pads are looking good... but be honest, as everyone says, it does not make much (if there's any) difference.

Did the installer tell you what thread pitch you need, verses what your lines have? There are a million adapters out there; I keep a drawer full of them and other brake installation odds and ends in my box at work... Also, if you know the pitch (I think I do but I'm not sure; never wrote it down), there are places that sell do-it-yourself parts to make your own lines. The tool isn't much; I did it on my streetbike with Goodridge lines and it worked perfectly.

Man I just bought R1 Concept big kit (4 rotors + 8 pads) !! I was also about to buy the StopTech SS brake lines...what did happen with yours ??

http://www.r1concepts.com/Items/bo%20combo%20premium%20pkg%20241?

I call them about the model years displayed on their website (1999-2005).
I explain them the gen 1 (99-03) and gen 2 (04+ ) different brakes specs. He told me it was to make it easier for the customer (I find it more unclear). every demands at one place for the Solara and when you do your purchase, you have to enter model year, so starting with that they send you the good brakes set.

I'll update you when I'll install them.
