Can you run winter rims with out tire pressure monitoring

I want to put snow tires on my 2007 with rims. Called Tire Rack, monitors would be $111 for each wheel. Does this system effect any other or would I just have to look at a red light on the dash for the winter driving season? Thanks.

Tire pressure monitor works off the rotation speed of the wheels. Put whatever you want on there. (As long as you don't go with four different sizes)
