Best color temp. for HID kits?

Best color temp. for HID kits?

Postby RDKamikaze » Fri Aug 11, 2006 7:15 pm

I know it's another HID question, dang people just won't shut up about them. Anyways, I'm getting a kit myself soon and I am wondering what color temperature is the most favored? I am not dumb, I have done my research but I just don't know if 4500k is whiter than 5000k or if 5000k is white with just a shade of blue or just how much blue is in 6000k? I have seen cars on the street that have HID and I am going "I want that color!" but I have no clue what color temp. they are! Can someone please help me with actual car pics or exp. with this kind of thing? Companies' car pix suck and make me clueless. If you know the color rating for a stock 350z that would be the best helper because I can't find it anywhere. Thanks everyone! :fadein:

Well - obviously you're going to get a broad range of responses since this is like saying "what's your favorite color of Solara?" - and since I'm the first to respond to your Poll, you can see what I selected. :)

Anyway - I was originally told mine was 5300K but I think they're more like 8000K since they're closer to the BMWs I've been next to, which have a slight "purple" tint, but look totally white in the projection, with just a splash of color around the edges...

And Compared to the Sylvania Silverstars in the Fogs below:

5300k is good. i have 7600.. but id go with 5300
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

 43K HID bulbs would give you the most useable lighting.

The 5K range is more blueish. They tend to pick up the road signs and road markings better. It is almost like having UV lamps.

It is more so when you move higher into the color range (6K+). The only draw back is that they don't light up much but blind oncoming traffic. I prefer the 5K or 43k HID bulbs. :P

Like I said - everyone is going to have their opinion here - it's to be expected... 8)

However - very little glare with projectors, regardless what color temp HIDs you put in there... and FWIW - I have at least 3-4X the visibility now than I had with Silverstars, so I def see an improvement. Now, would it be even more if I went to a warmer bulb? Who knows for sure - unless we could physically measure it.

if you REALLY did your research, you would know the answer to this

depending on the brand of HIDs youre getting, the kelvin rating could also be different...in example Ive seen 6000k in both Phillips and in McCulloch... theyre kinda different... so let us know what brand ur getting to better help you
