Does anyone have any advice on a security system to purchase? I have a 2005 Solara Convertiable and I am going to be taking my car into a bad area to work and I am really worried about getting my roof slit open. :(

If someone's going to do it, someone's going to do it. You'll need some good motion sensors though, or I don't think the alarm would do much good.

Anyway, by the time you get out to your car, the roof will already be cut open.

Dood - I realize that's just your second post, but is it really necessary to use such LARGE FUGGIN TYPE to get your message across? ;)

Yes, I've worried about my convert sometimes driving into LA as well, but other than vandalism, I don't think a rag top is any more at risk of theft than a hard top. I fthey want in, they'll get in - and poppin' a door open is a little less obvious to passers-by than cutting a rag top and jumping in over the top! ;)

Key - don't leave anything valuable in site.

I concur. I put everything desirable in the trunk and close the little console door with my MP3 player. One look at the stock stereo and they know it's useless to them.

You already have an alarm since whether they bust your window, slice the top, or use a slimjim, first thing they'll do is unlock the door setting off the alarm. So you'd have no added protection unless you had one that pages you.

No problem. Glad we could be of help! :D

You might consider installing Doberman 2.5 in your car though... just leave a water dish and a towel for it to relieve itself on. ;)

Yeah, especially considering 1 thing: People don't give a damn about car alarms. I mean, how many people do you see darting out the door with cordless phone in hand every time they hear an alarm go off? Especially if that car has NUMEROUS false alarms; people who recognize the car won't even give a damn even if it's driven off, or might even celebrate that it IS gone for all the years of lost sleep (either that or make like the Snickers commercial and throw a couch on it). So yeah, pagers are the way to go.
