Adding a hitch for mountain bikes

Adding a hitch for mountain bikes

Postby morganm00 » Wed Jun 14, 2006 8:19 pm

I've got a 2006 Solara soft-top convertible and have been thinking about adding a hitch to it so that I can hook in a bike rack and carry mountain bikes. I've seen one site (hitchestogo.com) and they show pictures of how easy it's supposed to be to install.

The problem is that the pictures imply that the hitch just screws into the holes on the frame, but when I look under my Solara, I don't see any holes.

I don't want to use any of the racks that touch the frame of the car as I don't want to risk scratching the paint any more than I have to.

Just wondering if anyone has done this or if you have any recommendations. Can it be done without welding or drilling?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

First, It's great to see another avid Cyclist with a Solara. I know I have a Gen 1 but I ordered a Hitch from eTrailer and it took like 20 minutes to install. This is my second Hitch from them and they are accurate in what they advertise. Heres a link for a 2006 Solara Hitch.

Also heres a few pics of my Hitch.

I just got my hitch in the mail yesterday and I'm having it installed tomorrow. I'll let you know if they have any trouble with it. Mine too is just for transporting bicycles, not to tow.

Damn - I was thinking about going with a "strap-on" type of trunk hitch, but this looks pretty clean... My only fear is the hitch being too low that it drags on driveway entrances... ??

'00vegas - Thanks for the info! It looks great and is exactly what I want for my Solara ... Did it just screw into place? I've looked at this hitch on their site and looked at the instructions, but I can't see how it will attach on the muffler side.

It's a sweet setup and looks like the ideal way to carry my bike.
