Big Brake Kit from Precision = $$$!!!

Big Brake Kit from Precision = $$$!!!

I got a response back from Precision today, regarding a big brake kit for our Gen 2 Solaras. I've provided the contact info at the bottom in case someone here wins the lotto and decides they'd like to go this route!

This is their response:

"Thank you for your inquiry to Precision Brakes Company. I do not have any kits available for your vehicle a this time but we can custom fabricate the kits for the front and the rear. If you are going to be utilizing 20” wheels I would recommend that you go with a 14” front kit and a 12.81” rear kit. The pricing for the front kit is $3051.72 and the rear kit is $3030.00.

Just to give you a little background information our company has been around for 8 years and we specialize in big brake kit upgrades. If you would like to check us out our website is:
http://www.precisionbrakescompany.com

We have over 800 different applications currently in production and we also are a master distributor of wildwood products which gives us access to wildwoods 400 applications on top of our massive 900 applications. You also do have three different options for caliper colors. I.E. Black, red and polished. On top of that, you have four different options for rotors which will be shown below in a couple pictures I am going to be sending you.

In the meantime here are a couple pictures to show you what we are capable of providing you with along with what kinds of options you have available to you. Here is an example of a 14” kit that is utilizing wilwoods 4 pot superlite caliper. (This is the exact type setup that we would be providing you with.)

Now keep in mind that our kits come with the most technologically advanced calipers around which will give you the best in braking power as well as performance. Also we have state of the art, Stainless Steel Braided Brake Lines which will not only give you a firmer brake pedal, but will not flex like your rubber hoses that are on your vehicle right now, and on top of that the new SS braided brake lines can handle a lot more pressure. You will also be getting state of the art rotors, which come in plain, drilled, slotted, or drilled and slotted. Not to mention our wide selection of pad compounds to best fit the use of your vehicle. Also bare in mind that we machine purpose-built adaptors that fit directly onto your vehicle mounts. Finally it also comes with hardware and instructions to make it easier for you to get it installed properly.

You have four options for rotors as well.

Here a couple examples of the caliper color we can provide you with. (We also do have polished calipers available as well.!) Please keep in mind that not all of our calipers are offered in red and polished. Please call for caliper color availability.

Also, bare in mind that we do not require the full amount up front. We only require half down to cover the cost of getting parts in house and to cover some development costs. If everything I have discussed here sounds good and when you want to start this go ahead and give me a call or shoot me back an E-mail. I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!"

FWIW - Rotara doesn't make Big Brake Kits for the Gen 2 - I just checked. Nobody does off the shelf. Everything has to be custom created. Sux. :(

PXL,

From one of the other threads...

http://www.solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php? ... =brake+kit

looks like the kit for the Gen 1/1.5 also fits the Gen 2.

Also, reference to StopTech kits here:

So far, there isn't one big brake kit out there that is reasonable in cost. For crying out loud, the materials are a fraction of the cost. They make an existing caliper fit an existing rotor and build a custom caliper relocation bracket. Is there anyone out there who can show me why these parts cost so much? (The reason: there are people out there willing to pay for it.)

My personal opinion, it's a big waste of money. It looks cool, but does not necessarily translate to shorter stopping distances. The ability to slow / stop the rotor is still dependant on your tire contact to the ground.

This goes back to my post about finding an existing setup of larger rotors and bigger calipers off a stock application. (For example, my '88 300ZX now has the aluminum 4 piston calipers from a 90+ twin turbo Z. Fits just fine after increasing the wheel clearance.) We should be looking at Lexus GS or Supra brakes to see what it takes to fit them onto the Gen2. Then, you have your pick of aftermarket parts since there are so many companies making rotors for those vehicles.
