Trenz ~ 2006

Trenz ~ 2006

Postby swindler » Fri May 12, 2006 8:35 am

First the 2006 owners can't get the CP-e intake to work on the Solara because of a change made on that year. Now the Trenz?

I bought the Trenz 2305-TFPP upper billet grill for my 2006, based primarily on the great pics from down2thec. But after receiving it, I was having trouble with the fit. My two issues were that one of the prongs on the driver side did not fit where it was positioned. I had to cut plastic to get it to snap. And then once installed, the grill is recessed. The top of the grill sits at least 1/4" behind the lip of the hood, and it's recessed along the sides as well.

If you go to their website, Trenz now lists 2004-2006 for the lower grill, but still only lists 2004 and 2005 for the upper grill. I sent them an e-mail and asked them why. After a week or so, I finally got this response:

>Good afternoon Steve!
>
>The bumper is the same for all three years; however the Grille is
>different for the 06 model.

>Thanks for showing interest in our products! Please let me know if
>I can be of any further assistance to you.
>
>Shellena Waters
>Product Marketing Analyst
>Lund International, Inc.

So it does look like there is a fit difference on the 2006. Apparently, joebxr and maybe some others got it to work, and is happy with his fit. But I just want potential buyers to know that I, for one, could not get a quality fit and you should take heed if you also have a 2006.

I'm going to try a return, but if I can't, I might be selling it to any 2004 or 2005 owners that want one.

I don't have my hood open in front of me right now to see the mounting points. Is there anything you can do with spacers (washers) and longer bolts?

Take some pics so we can see.

I'll try to take some pics this weekend to show you what I mean. I thought about modifying the bumper fascia so the grill would mount forward a little more. I think it's possible, but I wasn't enthusiastic about my options. Longer bolts wouldn't do it. The grill needs to be slid forward toward the nose. Drilling new holes is one option, but the new holes would be too close to the old. I'd probably want to fasten on some form of plate first, and then drill the new holes through that.

Anyway, I did get my return authorized. If I can't think of a good way to mount it this weekend, I'll probably take advantage of it.

I'll post pics when I can (busy weekend).

The more I read your thoughts here, the more I'm thinking you want this to be flush with the front fascia as oppossed to sitting back a bit...that is not going to happen. If you look at all the pictures in the tutorial and even on websites selling it, the grille definately sits back and not flush with the lip on the hood.

Just to go a step further, I did just talk with the Tech support guy at Trenz again, and he confirmed that they have fit this up to an 06 and that it is correct. I told him about customer service response and he stated they just didn't have the updated information loaded in the computers yet, but assured me he discussed this directly with the Engineer and that it is applicable for 04-06.

There seems to be mounting evidence that the grill fits just as well on the 2006 as it does on the 2004-2005. The only half-decent pictures I've seen from a side angle are those from down2thec, and in those, I don't see the same recessed grill that I see on mine - although I definitely would prefer a closer up shot from the side angle (down2thec?). Incidentally, I'd been trying to get a side angle shot from joebxr on his '06, and he's been very good about helping me with this, but is unavailable for a couple of weeks.

I would also state that the Trenz is definitely more recessed than the stock grill. That grill seems to come up ~flush.

I WILL take pictures this weekend and show you what I mean. I'd appreciate it if someone could confirm whether my fit is abnormal or just me being anal. (No voting from the crowd yet!)

Does this help? I think it's you being anal. I didn't measure my overhang but I'd guess 1/4 inch is close. As long as you're standing, the chrome on chrome really makes it disappear. (You thought mine was flush from the pics.) Sorry for the lousy pic... Just ran out and snapped.

If you get a good pic of the overhang, I'll append it to my tut as a warning.

Looks like the same overhang. Didn't really notice it until you mentioned it, so not a problem for me.
Does the stock sit flush?

Canuck101 - there's another thread with some other places to get but I got mine at http://radtoyscentral.com/
Decent deal and a real stand up guy (Ray) (See tutorial thread for more pics.)

Do you have a direct URL to the Trenz Gilles on that site? Doing a search results in Nada - so does clicking through Body>Grille

Thanks! ;)

i am buying this grill for sure however would prefer to buy it off someone rather then going thru the business site or ebay . i am not interested in paying canadian customs and duties fees on 500 usd purchase.

i think grill would be a nice match to foose chrome wheels

Email Randy at orders@radtoyscentral.com

He'll tell you the price and if they're in stock. Tell him you're on SG for the $60 shipping store credit rebate.
