Solara struts, Help please

Postby kgzero1 » Tue Apr 25, 2006 8:23 pm

HELP!!!!! My friend and I have been searching for struts (shocks) for my car, but cannot find any. No one sells the TRD ones anymore. My right rear struts is done for, it is leaking and making crazy amounts of noise. I need you guys' help.
Where can I find struts that can withstand the pressure put on by the TRD springs?

I thought TRD adjusted their springs so they can work with the OEM equipment. I heard Bilstein makes struts for your car, check that company out.

So what does everyone else do if they have to replace the struts? Just buy the OEM one?
Cuz the TRD springs push them down a lot. I am starting to consider switching back to the OEM springs.
BTW, can we use the Camry (03-06) ones?

One of the guys here actually bought the SE Sport struts (they came in a TRD box) for a non-Sport model. Those should most definitely be good with the springs. But IIRC, they were $$$$.

It was CJSblackbeauty... http://www.solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php? ... ht=#206653
But he no longer owns the Solara.

TRD Springs aren't "pushing" on your struts. They are shortening the travel which should make SLE struts less effective but last longer. And sport struts should be perfect with the TRD springs.

Are you sure there's no warranty possibilities here? Suspension not covered?

SE Sport Struts are the way to go, but if you swap one I'd swap all 4. Funny thing is, when I replaced my front passenger side strut (hit a nasty pot hole) it came in a TRD box...

It doesn't seem like they want to cover it since I had them installed by shop (not Toyota). I will try to call them later. How much are the SE Sport Struts?
BTW, this problem arose after going over a very nasty pot hole that I couldn't avoid, while going at least 55.

call a different dealer but don't give out any of your infomation say that you're driving and can't get access to the info at the time and explain your situation. If they say that because it wasn't installed by toyota the warranty is voided. Put the stock springs back on and take it to the dealer of your choice.

If you are riding on TRD springs you should still have a warranty... If they are dealer installed it extends the warranty... Either way, contact TRD and find out the conditions and go from there.

2 posts above yours. 8)

I'd take it elsewhere and don't tell them the TRD springs were installed by a shop. Just by another Toy dealership. That type of info is not in the national DB from what they tell me. (SG's of the past have said recall/TSB info only)

Well, if I say that, they say to take it to the dealership where I got them installed. Also, looks like TRD wouldn't cover it either; from the TRD website:
LEVEL 1 SPORT PARTS

Applicability

The first 5 digits of the TRD part number must be "00602" to be considered a Level 1 Sport Part. Part must be installed by a Toyota dealer on a Toyota vehicle and be specifically approved by TRD for the particular application.
http://www.trdusa.com/warranty.asp
TRD springs part number = 00602-48130-019. So I am screwed.
I called about purchasing the SE Sport Shocks for the rears, and I was quoted $203 each, if I have ABS.
Don't we all have ABS?
