Sunroof DEFLECTOR

Postby joebxr » Thu Apr 20, 2006 2:06 pm

Couldn't find anything related so am hoping someone may know what's happening here....

I just installed the OEM sunroof deflector. I've had these on all my cars before, and they do a wonderful job of eliminating the wind buffeting noise at speed. Okay, so I figure I will have the same results....NOT! With deflector in place I get a horrible droning sound at about 45-50 then again from 60 up...tried moving the deflector position in relation to opening...this only changes what MPH the noise happens at. Talked with Service Writer at dealership...says, "YUP, that's what happens and can't do anything about it. Seen it with others and that's that...no fix."

Does anyone have any info on this? Does anyone have one installed and seeing same issue or have one installed with no issue?

Thanks

I am experiencing the same condition with my solara with the wind deflector. My car only gives a buffeting in the 27-35 mph range...but it is INTENSE. Went to the dealer and was told that toyota was not required to fix the problem because they all do it to a certain degree. I have no problems at any other speed including 80mph +. Seems weird how several people on the board have commented on this problem with different speeds at which it occurs.

Is yours TOYOTA deflector too? I'm tempted to try an aftermarket version thinking the TOYO design is flawed. When I look at the TOYOU design, it appear not to direct the airflow upward but rather straight back...and I think from a design standpoint, that's the fault.

I also have the toyota deflector, was dealer installed, so I have had it since day 1. I can't comment on any advantage over stock but agree with you that a lip (like on aftermarket motorcycle windscreens) would help. I think I will try to reposition it to see if it has any effect.
