Want to change the front grill but.....

I love the factory grill on the front of the Absolutely Red Solaras. I would love it even more if there was not the Toyota emblem. I haven't looked too closely, but I'm fairly certain that the emblem cannot simply be removed.

So, is there an option to get an aftermarket girll that looks stock but without the T? The factory grill looks almost like shiny black teeth or something. I also love the Black/Red contrast. A lower grill that matched the upper one would be nice too.

The emblem can be removed, but it leaves a weird blank spot.

The black emblems are your best bet if you want to keep the factory grille... they blend pretty well.

Your other option is to get a pair of Mike T's grilles painted black. They don't look like "shiny black teeth", but the black on red does look pretty slick.

I'd post a couple pics of what Mike T's grilles in black look like on a red car, but CarDomain is down at the moment... Check out PhreakdOut's site when you get the chance:

The front emblem is EASILY removed... only held on by three clips (I never liked saying that before, but now that I'm removing my own emblem... :)

The down side is that there's an outline of the emblem on the grill...

darn... theprodigy79 beat my post!

But to elaborate on his post, Mike T's grill also comes in black, the material is pre-painted by the manufacturer... beats painting it yourself... it'll cost you more though...

For the black on red look, search for PhreakdOut's ride, his avatar shows it (and it is damn slick!)

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies.

I know this would look so sweet. Pardon my MS Paint skills, but this is an idea of what I'm thinking. Actually, I'm thinking about it coming to a V shape in the middle, not overlapping like my poor Paint skills show.

If I have the patience, I'll try making a bottom grill to match.

Ok... if you thought my MS Paint skills sucked before, who knows what you'll think this time.
Anyway, this is an "idea". I know it would be much nicer if it was real, or if my Paint skills didn't suck so bad... with my poor attempt, it looks like a piano.

If you cross your eyes a bit, it looks even better!!!

Yeah that is WAY too much. Personally, the grille was the first thing I wanted to get rid of when I first got the car..only because there was the chrome strip on top that just threw it off. But I like Mike's grille because it complements the line of that chrome lining.

I think I'm almost ready to switch it up to billet for the summer..

Hmm.... I wonder what Michael T's chrome grill would look like on the Red Solara?

I haven't seen any pics of that yet.

Silver with black grill and gun metal rims would be hot too!

Here's the pic mentioned previously. (Thanks for the props guys!)

This spring, I'm sending my hood's chrome strip off to be powder coated. I think the chrome is OK, but you may want to keep that in mind if you go the black grill route.

BTW: Nice lookin' ride there!!

Black. Matching red in powdercoat might not look good if the color is slightly off.
