tC supercharger in Gen 2 Solara

tC supercharger in Gen 2 Solara

Postby kgzero1 » Wed Feb 08, 2006 5:06 pm

Further looking at the possibility of using the tC supercharger in our cars I ran into this website that has an FAQ about this supercharger http://www.scioncrazy.com/tC_TRD_Supercharger_faqs.pdf

The question of intrest is below, as is the answer

Q5) Will the application work for Camry and Highlander (same 2AZ-FE)?
A5) No, while the engine platform is the same, it is not configured for those specific applications.

I don't know if I beleive this though.

What do you guys think?

I wonder what needs to be configured... Ya need someone with a tc and a 4 cyl Solara and site there and compare the ins and outs... Why not opt for a turbo?

turbo....I wish. Well my friend just got a tC. From what I see, the Solara has a lot more extra space under the hood. Espeacially where the supercharger would go. We have about 5 to 6 extra inches of space between the radiator and the engine.

For the amount of money to buy and install the supercharger, you might as well have gotten the V6.

I doubt toyota will waste anytime testing the tC supercharger on solaras.

^^ True. So very true. To late for me cuz I am not about to trade in my car for a V6, too much $ to lose this way. Though I have considered it.

Unfortunately that still only applies to 4cyl engines anyway. :(

At least you have a manual tranny.

The differences are so small that I think that relatively little fabrication will be needed to get this setup in your car.

Oh, yeah, that is the other reason. I really wish Toyota had made a manual V6. I would have bought that in instant. I wonder why they don't make manual V6's.

Since you already have the man tranny, then any HP you can get outta that 4-banger will be better than this spongy AT they stick us with in the V6!

I'd do whatever I could if I were you - you're better off in the long run! ;)

Pretty sure it was because the lack of sales. If you think about the age bracket they were targeting, they didn't want manuals. I think they kept the 4 banger manual because of the fuel economy thing and probably sold a lot more.

Dammit - you're prolly right there!

But I gotta tell ya - even us old duffers feel like a kid again behind the wheel of our Solaras! I just wish it had the response of my '67 Cougar! ;)

It wouldn't be cheap but when they did the proto intake, cp-e did some R&D toward a shift kit for us. They reversed most of the work but left my 3rd gear tight for me. I love that shift. (Someone even commented on it when listening to the MP3 of the cp-e intake... it's that different) Anyway, if there were enough serious folks willing to put down some deposit money I bet cp-e would finish the job. They had my ride rockin' with a tight shift and a machined Altima TC. With the stall speed hiked to 3K they said she was a monster. (Imagine getting all that HP to the wheels instead of leaving it in the tranny fluid) The only thing left undone was getting the ECU to not think their was trouble afoot. They shelved the project until there's a proven market.

Yeah you are probably 100% correct. Well, I just found out my friend works at Hamer Toyota as a tech. Time to call him. :P
