replacing front and rear speakers

replacing front and rear speakers

Hi all,

I just ordered that Scosche dash kit, hopefully with a little help from Home Depot paint-matching, I can get that to match the current silver dash.

Anyways, I'm gutting out the JBL headunit and speakers and replacing with a Pioneer DEX-P9 unit and 4 JL VR690-CXi's, powered by Soundstream Van Gogh VGA-320.4.

Does anyone have a manual or has someone ever posted (I searched, couldn't find) any pics/instructions for removing the side door panels and back dash panel to get to the speakers?

On a side note, anyone ever used JL VR690's or the Pioneer DEX-P9? I heard the JL's bump pretty good. I used to have Kappa's in my old Camry and was not happy with their performance. Or any other Soundstream fan's here used Van Goghs? I have an old Rubicon 1000.1 I plan on using when I get to the subs later this summer.

Thanks!

Hi Jewls,

Thanks, that thread has good info on the headunit. As for the rear speakers, could you ask your bf how he got the rear deck out? Also, did he have to put a harness for the aftermarket speakers, or did they just fit nicely where the factory ones were?

Thanks!

Wasn't it mentioned not too long ago that once you remove the stock front speakers you can't put them back in anymore?

He got the rear speakers out from the bottom if I remember correctly. You can get them by the trunk or putting the rear seat down. You have to cut the stock speakers out of thier existing brackets, and use those for the new ones. Make sure you have plenty of cutting disks for your dremmel, and make sure you have shallow speakers, or they will hit the trunk lid bar. I will have him post in further detail.

Yes, I posted a PDF (via michaels artic frost) of all the manual pages concerning the audio system including removal of the front, door, and rear speakers at:
http://www.freewebs.com/michael40507/So ... 201-14.pdf
but it looks like this link may be down. If so, let me know and I will PM you the file by this weekend.

Also, IIRC the according to the manual the rear speaker are removed (intact) from the top after removing the rear deck, and not from the bottom (trunk) side. Otherwise I would have replaced mine already.

Thanks for the post DocJohn, however, on the page describing "Front No.1 Speaker Assy Replacement" the first 4 steps for disassembling the door refer to some Page 75-12 which isn't in the PDF file so I'm not quite sure how to take the door apart. Is this manual available somewhere or do you have page 75?

Thanks!

Yes, I have the complete set of manuals. I'll try to get page 75-12 out to you ASAP. The manuals are available on e-bay for $99.

taking the door apart is easy.

two screws on the bottom, one behind the chrome handle is another, then there is one behind a circle tab close to the hinge, one underneath the window controls.

triangle also pops out.

then unplug everything and seperate the doors with a panel popper
but thats just how i did it. took five minutes.
Alpine + Dynaudio = Sonic bliss.

ani let me know how this works out for you. My front speakers actually work quite well, and did not replace them, just the rear and the HU, and I am happy with the sound, but still want a sub and an amp later.
