Custom Lowering

Talking to my friend's dad that owns a car dealership. Talked about lowering my car sometime in the spring after the snow clears out but told me about heating the springs until they're red hot and lower the car down onto the springs to compress them to make it lower. Anyone ever heard of this process being done? (Seen on my friend's car but scared about how it would ride afterwards.)

yeah, thats been around for a while, its called melted /heating the springs. imho its right up there along with cutting the coils of a spring, which is a no-no.

don't do it. its not worth the dangers of the stress it puts on the car.

TRD lowering springs are available. Eibach makes them.
Set lowers the car 1.2" in front and 1.4" in the rear without changing the vehicle's suspension geometry.

The brits I worked with in the 70's used to do this to their rides. It is more an art than a science, and since no one really "practices" the art, its a very hit or miss transaction. Nothing funnier than a 1968 MGB down on one corner. It is nearly impossible to get them all the same height.

Plus the heating will have a negative effect on the spring metal.

Given all the work that is involved in this, I would spend the extra $200.00 for the TRD springs as long as you are going to have the suspension apart anyway. If you can afford the ride, you can afford these springs.

And I agree with the others here... buy the TRD/Eibach springs and forget about heating or cutting the stock springs ... nothing but trouble otherwise.

Regarding lowering springs, I don't recall any posts of 04 SLE's done yet. Has anyone here with an SLE had TRD or Eibach lowering springs installed, and if so, can you describe the difference in ride and handling from stock?
