Upgrade stock audio for 2004 Solara SE..

Postby DD » Wed Sep 08, 2004 11:26 pm

I have a 2004 Solara SE, but am not really happy with the stock audio system. I am thinking of an upgrade, am not sure how to proceed with it.

I dont really want to change the head unit, as it will kill the entire interior looks of the car.

Can anyone give me suggestions on how should I go about this upgrade ? Like what speakers do you recommend, or some other stuff I should put in (like an amp), etc. My budget is around 350$ for the total process.

Thanks
DD

saying you don't wanna chnge the head unit is like saying you don't really care what it sounds like....unfortunately there is no kit yet for our cars.....but as far as amps and such go....it's all about how much money u wanna spend....

$350 and you don't wanna change the receiver?? Good luck with that! I have been looking into this for months before giving up to wait for the dash kit.

Actually for $350 you may have to compromise on quality to replace the head unit and speakers.

You should be able to replace the speakers for $350 pretty easily.

Do you have the JBL system? I don't know the specs on the other system, but you should be able to go with 6x9 in the doors & rear deck just like you can with the JBL.

I have purchased some Infinity Kappa 9602 (2 way) for my rear deck. My understanding is that the magnet on the Kappa is too large to use in the doors; it interferes with the window going all the way down. Several people have said they were able to use the Infinity Reference series by reusing the bracket on the JBL 6x9 speaker.

Unfortunately neither Crutchfield not Sounddomain has updated their databases with what fits so there will be some hit or miss involved if you do it yourself. You may be able to go some place locally that can tell you...sorry there just isn't that much info out there.

My plan is to go to Hi Fi Buys here in Atlanta to buy some speakers for the front and to pay them to install the rears I bought too.

6x9 front and rear....don't know the depth though....i had a trim ring installed on the fronts so they would clear the window....3/4" i believe...
