HID kit

Postby yaddadaimsayin » Fri Jun 12, 2009 11:42 pm

done and done! I feel like the lights aren't showing their true potential because my whole front end got hella sandstormed so my headlights and fogs are all clouded up and my front end is speckled with rock indents. too much money to redo the whole thing though :(

still.. HIDs look nice.

I was just informed that my HID package is either going to be destroyed or sent back to shipper because as of yesterday 6/11/09 the (DOT) Department of Transportation has informed the DHL people that HID kits are illegal and will not be shipped to the US they will be confiscated.

If that's not enough to worry about.. geez Night, that royally sucks man!! Sorry to hear it

Can Anyone offer up some pics though? ...from close-up & a distance (10ft. - 20ft. roughly) Please??

Please include bulb temp. 4 - 6 - 8 - 10k also,
Thanks a ton!

Still no conclusion. I swear I have never had this much trouble with shipping. The worst experience I've ever dealt with.

Update. This is what the Manager at the Los Angeles DHL hub told me read as follows:

The problem is that per the FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) section 108, which regulates lighting equipment, states that replaceable light sources are designed to be non-interchangeable, it would not be possible for an HID headlamp conversion set to meet the standard’s photometry requirements for an original equipment headlamp system using a halogen light source. Furthermore, a headlamp dealer or motor vehicle repair business could not remove the original halogen headlamps and install HID replacement headlamps without violating 49 U.S.C. 30122. That section prohibits manufacturers, distributors, dealers, and motor vehicle repair businesses from making inoperative equipment installed in accordance with a Federal motor vehicle safety standard. The notion of a conversion kit therefore is not in compliance with the FMVSS and cannot legally be imported.

So basically I called this guy and he told me that I am not getting these shipped to me at all. This is some bull $hit. I called the shipper at vme they barely speak and understand English no offense and they are telling me that they have to wait to see if they can get the package back and resend it. This $hit is a mess for some headlights. So in all the people who are attempting to order hids from what Richard Grant is telling me that the kits will be confiscated.

wtf.... is it just because of where you live or yours was an unlucky package picked out of many. No matter what the case Mr. Grant needs to get the dildo out of his ass.

Sounds like the paperwork wasn't in order and was flagged. I know that often when importing, the tax you pay on it is different based on the item and I bet they were trying to claim them as replacement OEM parts (cheaper) instead of aftermarket parts (luxary). You could just tell them that it is going on a non registered show car that is meant for offroad use, but it sounds like they have allready made their decision on it and vvme might just have to resend via a different shipping company.

Yeah im pretty sure they already made their decision and I won't get these shipped to me. Maybe ill try the ebay store because the ebay store has a different seller name and contact information such as different e-mail and the ebay store is located in sunnyvale,ca. Like 80-90 miles away from me where I live.

I'm not sure what kind of re pore you have with the vendor but I've "heard" of vendors that ship boycott items to the US claiming it is a gift, present, drawings or candles. I know that would be falsification of documents, but have heard it happens. It kind of freaks you out if the mail man rings the bell to congratulate you for getting married because the package says "wedding gift" on the box.

I would request the supplier to use a different shipper and change the declaration, if he is required to fill one out.
