Well, it's easy to know why the raised the price, as far as I know they are the only ones that have it on-line, and seeing good demand for the product then, they just went up.

Mud fllaps

Postby jreiter » Mon Jun 21, 2004 1:48 pm

Be aware that while those mud guards look great, they don't fit over the lower body claddding on the Sport SE. I tried. Anyone know of any made for the Sport?

hold on a sec, do you mean that the mudguards do not fit for a SE sport at all? because i bought them but they haven't shipped it so if they do not fit then i'm gonna get a refund instead of waiting for it to come to me and me having to spend money to send it back

man i hope they fit cause thats gonna suck.. hahaha well i guess on the bright side i can use the money for other things

I believe jreiter is right. We have the Sport SE and the ground effects on that does not accomodate the mud guards. I would cancel that order in a MINUTE!

All the SE Sport owners on this site interested in mudguards should write toyotaparts4u.com and ask them to make a longer mudguard option just for the SE sport. That'll be enough customers to warrant this new part I'd think.

Re: tire removal for gaurds

I finally installed my mud flaps with the help of a friend who had a drill. The part you are drilling into (body lip) is plastic by the way. I made sure I drilled through the plastic liner underneath also by pushing it forward toward the drill bit while my friend drilled through starting with small bits and working his way up. When we then screwed the screws in, it went though the plastic body piece AND the plastic liner. That way less chance of dirt getting stuck back there. We indeed did have to remove the rear tires to be able to drill the holes straight in (tire would have been in the way). Did it in an hour and they look great. Hopefully now I won't have all that dirt and tar kicked up by the tires sticking to the car.

i would suggest using some lok tite on the screws just to make sure they dont come loose, seeing as they are screwqed into plastic. silicone on the flat surfaces coming in contact with any body part will reduce the dirt and mud getting up and into the crevaces. and by the way my car comes in next week and im gonna ask if the dealer can let me have the mud guards for cost and ill put them on myself. dealer cost on the parts is $49.00!

you guys should check with the salesman that sold you the car and ask if they can let you have it at dealer cost. if they want your return biz they would be smart to make you that deal.

I just finished installed mud guards on my 05. The passenger rear I had to modify the clips (for the screws). They wouldn't slide far enough over the inside fender lip to line up with the holes. The driver's side required no modification.

I too had to remove the rear wheels/tires. Unless you have a 90 degree drill setup I don't see how you can drill the holes properly without removing the wheels/tires.

They look great. I will take pictures and post if anyone wants to see the absolute red version.
