So were you ever able to get pics? I'm still completely interested in doing this mod and want to know how you did it! At least explain it, I'm sure I could figure it out after playing with it for a while.

Ooh, it looks good! I want it on my 1.5! Gotta figure out if it's possible though, I think the whole shifter is one piece.

EDIT: Looks like it is, and I remembered the overdrive button. Are we Gen 1.5 owners out of luck?

You can always relocate your overdrive button. Just get a switch that has 1 negative stand and 2 positive stands and relocate it anywhere u want. I did it before and its fine. You can get the button/switch/toggle at radio shack or whereever u please.

Yeah but how do I remove the shifter? I know a tutorial's coming but that's for the Gen2. It doesn't seem like I can just unscrew it.

So you kind of tied it in there? IMO, it wouldn't look quite as nice. I would even consider replacing the shifter with something else.

Hey RD,

With all the mods to your car I'm guessing you're a pretty creative guy.

Why dontcha just get yourself a boot (junkyard or the source posted earlier). With the boot in hand it can't be all that difficult to figure out how to attach it to the underside of the center console panel or around the outside of the shift indicator (plastic panel with P, R,D etc on it).

Maybe it's simpler to remove that plastic panel too but once looking at it you should be able to puzzle it out.

Cheers

Problem is, doing such a mod on a Gen 1/1.5 would be tough, since the shifter has a overdrive button right on it. Anybody got any information on the construct of the shifter assembly? Maybe something from a manual?

I have been looking at it and trying to figure out how to do this mod. The only problem I'm running in to is getting the green plastic piece off. What's it called? Once I get that off, it will allow for clearence to put the boot on underneath the cover.

Don't worry, I'm not COMPLETELY lazy! :P
