Gen 2 Custom Y pipe interest?

DatSRBoi wrote:No. Cost will be almost the same as the Gen 1. You guys dont pay for the prototype. I try to put my time in to get a working one for you guys. Why do you think Im doing to weld a bunch of shimmy-slimmy-schlock asss pipes in and call it ebay? Just like any company there is R&D. Im just seeing interest of 15 buyers IF it does come out that those 15 buyers WILL pay for it. It aight no shimmy-slimmy-schlock asss overnight...

Im not that dumb

Dood - chill...

Maybe it's a language thing, but I'm not getting what you're saying here... (the "shimmy-shimmy-schlocks" don't help much either!) ;)

Okay - my bad on the price thing... I guess... I'll go search the Gen 1 threads to look for a price then

But still - you're suggesting that we commit to buying something that hasn't been built/tested/proven to gauge interest in whether you want to build a prototype?

DatSRBoi wrote:Yeah if it becomes too much of a problem Im going to dump the idea.... Because I do need 15 buyers at least.

It's not like it's a sticker or a piece of cosmetic trim here - this is a performance item, and the last I checked, people like their stuff to work right! ;)

I haven't seen anything but interest in this thread so far - and the few questions about performance issues/concerns should actually HELP you in the design of the Y pipe (I would think) - so why are you getting so defensive all of a sudden?

Tension break guys.

Dat, thank you so much for putting the effort forward. I think there are a few here that would be interested if a sample could be made and tested. Since your expertise was mainly with Gen1s you should find someone close who can work with you and spearhead the Gen2. I'd hate to see this killed because all the workload was dumped on you.

Everyone else, participation is key. Dat is not out to make money on this, he's helping us out. Give him a break and help share some risk and adventure.

Take a breather and let's get this working.

See, that's the thing - we just need more info, that's all... nobody has said they're not interested or that it shouldn't be made yet.

Phreak, you have voiced the same concerns as we have (from an educated standpoint), and somehow the Headers topic has crept in here as well, but so far I haven't seen any real answers/info evolve.

Nobody's saying that Dat shouldn't make $$ on this - he definitely should! Crips suggested soliciting other groups with similar engines to see if enough initial interest could be roused, but I'll guarantee you that they will have the same questions that we have at this point as well. ;)

I'd be in, but like the others we saying need a rough cost. Don't want exact numbers just a rough idea. If were a $100 plus or minus I think everyone would be cool with that. We all have our own reasons for not committing. If you would feel more comfotable with me giving you mine no problem, I can give you two. I would like to do my CPe intake and a new exhaust all at the same time. Plus with my wife not working because of a new baby I'm strapped to one income. So all purchases have to be justified and calculated carefully. I've been setting aside $$$ in a shoe box for mods to do since I bought this car. Now, I'm not saying that I will or won't commit but someone here has got to have a rough idea so we all know what to expect.

As far as those who do the research on getting this thing figured out I don't mind dropping a few extra bills there way for time and effort. I give those guys alot of credit that they would go out there and try to figure it all out on there own time. On a side note, i do agree with some of the other guys that say we have to make sure that this thing works before we all commit to dropping down some cash.

In the end, I'm down for it if we can get it working, I am definatlyin , the shoe box just want's to know a rough idea of price that's all.

NOOOOoooooooohhhhhh....... WAIT!!! Still a strong interest out here.... (Anyone else? SPEAK UP PLEASE!!) I brush with R&D frequently... including prototyping, and then ultimately mass-production.... (Alright, so it's on the "grand scale" of automotive... still, the PRINCIPLES still apply...)

Dat, you've done it before, nothing ventured, nothing gained.... and I know you put more into it then you get out... but Phreak laid out some important considerations....

MARKETING. I'm not meaning something major... just the "business model" that is necessary for it to be a "viable" project.... the "cross-platform" target audience, etc....

Dat, I hope something still "stirs up" on this... I mean... isn't this how Gen 1/1.5 moved forward? Especially in the early days? As people move forward out of standard warranty on more of these noted vehicles, there will be a larger interest in making modifications.... and the second time owner of these vehicles, is even MORE likely to mod... that's just plain "tuner statistics" 101.

ANYWAY!!!!

Dat, still hopeful and supportive of the concept, and if some movement can happen there... I hope there are more of us that are behind your applied skills on this....

Thank you,

Really Dat - please don't get pissed-off and just dump this... we're all on the same team here, aren't we? We all want the same thing - results!

So don't take our questioning or technological discussions to mean anything other than concern as to what those results may be, okay? Nobody's questioning your integrity or capabilities here - you've already proven that in the past. ;)

*Edit:

Had I read this Gen 1 Y pipe thread entirely before, I think some of my questions would have been directed differently:

http://www.solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php? ... sc&start=0

Dat - you have to realize that not all of us Gen 2 guys follow what's going on in Gen 1 land! I rarely read any of the Gen 1 tech threads because a) most of them don't apply to me in any way, and b) it's depressing to see so much aftermarket support for the older Solaras. :(

Seriously - if I had known it's only a $300 investment, I'd think it would be worthwhile... especially if there was hope for headers down the line too.

Also - I'm not good at reading dyno charts, so I can't tell which line is which on the chart you show on Pg 1 in the other thread - so I'm not sure if there's significant loss or gain in the low end torque.

Thanks...
