As good as the TRD muffler?

Postby PhreakdOut » Sat May 28, 2005 12:05 am

How long have you had your muffler? The TRD logos are laser etched for sure.

I got mine this spring and the Toyota dealer took two weeks to get it on special order. I'll confirm it with Toyota in a week and a half.

I've had mine for a year effective earlier this month.

I suspected that might be the case. I'm sure in a year, mine won't be the latest design. (ha,ha) Then I'll be in the same boat.

On the positive side, they used a double wall tip that in my opinion looks pretty good. The laser etch should also last a long time.

If you're not liking the tip style, perhaps I'll see if I can get some oval TRD tips and post them up for those who would want one. (It'll take atleast a month for me to get them from Taiwan)

Slant Cut, Circle

Postby FLUXEMAG » Thu Jul 14, 2005 5:31 pm

Ok everyone, I had my browser locked and loaded on a TRD muffler for $425 including shipping. But it's the circle, not the oval. I think that's why there's no picture on the site. It has this description:
Sale: $401.32

Constructed of durable stainless steel, the new 04 Solara Sport Muffler features a polished muffler and double walled, wide diameter exhaust tip with slant-cut and rolled edge. The TRD logo is etched on both sides of the high-polished tip. The new Sport Muffler is approved for installation on all 2004 Solara and 2002-2004 Camry applications including both V6 and 4-cylinder models. Power increases up to 10%* while providing a healthier, more aggressive tone over the stock system. The system is legal in all 50 states and does not exceed the regulatory 95 dB sound levels.

Of course I expect 0% power increase, only want it for the sound and looks for the body kit. I'm not buying this one because it is definately a circle tip after looking at the slant cut rolled edge double wall script. Any ideas on getting the oval, where?

I think it's a crap shoot. If the part has been in some inventory for a year or so, then you'll get the round tip instead of oval. Current production is oval.

Call up (or email the dealer and ask if someone can check the part before you order. Explain the change in production.)

Dealer referral please

Postby FLUXEMAG » Fri Jul 15, 2005 7:52 am

Because two dealerships I went to said there are not parts for the Solara except the TRD air filter, will someone give me the dealer's name they got theirs from? If you have the oval tip TRD muffler, let me know.

I'm really bad with installs when I don't have everything I need, so the whole missing bolts thing doesn't sit well. Where did you'all get the bolts?

Yay now that I work for a toyota dealership I went to the parts dept. and with my employee discount I can get the trd sport muffler for $350 incl. tax... I just wish I had an extra $350  Maybe the could deduct it out of my paycheck in 3 monthly insallments... That would be pretty cool, I'll have to ask about it...

Do you think the dealer would get wise if you sold parts out the back door? (Dealer discount + SolaraGirlie comission?)

Hahaha what do you think, my guess would be that after the second muffler they'd ask what I'm doing with all these mufflers, besides with shipping it would work out to be pretty close to toyotaparts4u's price wouldn't it? they sell it for like 400 bucks right? It just works out better for me cuz I don't have to pay any shipping costs...

Discuss it with your parts manager first. We're talking non-local sales anyway so there's no loss of potential profit. (They wouldn't get the sale anyway.) If there's no restriction on the number of parts you can buy and it's no a conflict of intrest, then they should have no issue. I agree, I wouldn't do it and risk an embarrasing situation later. Get their buy in first.

Who knows, this may reflect well on you bringing in some parts sales. (If they can make money on the deal.)
